Airfix 1:48 Gloster Javelin

Post by cj9ru » Fri Jun 17, 2022 12:12 pm

My latest off the production line. The new 1:48 Gloster Javelin a present from my brother. A superb kit with all the bits fitting well and level of detail superb. I bought extra decals from Hannants so that I could produce the personal aircraft of the Wing Commander of 25 Squadron when my father served with them at RAF Leuchars. His initials were added to the J identifier on tail. An interesting oddity is that the H and W were different sizes on each side.
The serial code in the decals supplied is wrong but sufficient numbers to correct it to end in a 0. XH880.

My model to be displayed flying but the ladder and engine covers supplied with kit are good and shown in photos. Only criticism is the kit came without pilots. Another addition from Hannants along with metal pitot tubes on wings

Good job. How did you get the overwing roundels over the vortex generators?

I would like to claim modelling brilliance but there were handy holes in the roundel decal in the box. Another example of the great deal of thought that has gone into kit.

Lovely build!. A departed pilot friend [whose Javelin Pilot's Notes I have] always referred to it as the 'Dragmaster'. :)

It is a great model kit. The original certainly looks like it would have a fair bit of ‘drag’…
I didn’t realise until recently that the later marks had reheat!

Cheers
Chris
