I actually get my stash back today so i'll finally be able to decide what i'm going to build. The Hobbyboss 1/72 SU-47 Berkut is in there tempting me...

Hopefully Airfix will get their finger out and send me the Club Kit soon so i can build it for this GB! Failing that it may be a no show as my allowance is already spent for this month!!!

I may join this, if it's not too late. Got a cracker lines up, it's a 1950s British cold war jet that 'flew with a Soviet red star'!

I've selected a few kits out of the stash for the GB and hopefully i'll be able to get all of them done. All 1/72, Hobbyboss P-40, P-39 and Su-47, and ICM I-15bis and 2 variants of the I-16.

Happy to have you on board Steve, just as long as your idea is not a whif as such, and you can verify your chosen subject did indeed fly with a genuine Soviet Red Star. :thumb: (Have to say I`ve been playing with the idea of `captured` types myself) ;) :ninja:

Sorry PJ, thats a negative. Only aircraft types with a Red Star that fly from the motherland comrade.

Sorry Steve, I refer you to rule 2 in the first post. (Admittedly I`ve updated the ruling to avoid further confusion, but this GB is for aircraft operated within the Soviet/Russian air force only and not capitalist copies...) ;)

I wouldn't call Hollywood a capitalist copy - hmmm, but then again!

No worries TC, jobs a good one on my end - off to find a suitable model as an excuse!

Ahhh, come on TC, don't move the goalposts! I can confirm that my aircraft did indeed 'fly with a red Soviet star' - which was the original wording in the rules! It didn't fly within the Soviet armed forces however and was not a captured airframe.

Ooh ooh, also it's called the "Red Star" group build and not the "Soviet/Russian AF" group build. Go on TC, it did exist and is not a whif honest!

Ok chaps, read the posts earlier and had a good long think about the comments made. Here`s my final conclusion.

I feel that I should stand by my initial idea that this GB should only include aircraft operated by the Soviet/Russian air force. The problem I have with including any aircraft that bore a red star is that it opens it up to far too many American types ranging from the Korean war through to today`s adversary types.

Someone could enter an F-86 Sabre in full USAF silver scheme and then say that because it has a kill marking on it, it`s eligable for entry. Same goes for an F-4 from the USAF, USMC or USN from the Vietnam war. For me, and I hope I`m not alone, this is not what this GB is about and I feel we need to define and be clear as to what and what is not within the scope of this GB.

So...., while that may not be the answer some members want to hear, can I remind you that the Soviet Air Force in particular, operated lots of western types which includes British and US lend lease as well as captured Luftwaffe aircraft. I`ve heard stories of more modern western types `captured` and evaluated by the Russians, (F-5 Tiger springs to mind), but as yet I have not seen any photographic proof. (Of course if you can supply that proof, you can enter it).

A quick google and 10 minutes of research will give you lots of ideas.

As the original suggester for this GB I comfirm that the idea was for a GB for types operated by the USSR and the modern day Russian air force. Those who wish to comfront the Peoples Commisar TC2324 will find that the working holiday to Siberia has sudenly become available!
