Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
Nice TC,
Well, when i noticed this one had won the vote, i was kinda disappointed as the era isnt really in the que for me just now! Then i remembered i bought an Esci F-4J in colours that TC will recognize!
Then there is the Harrier project i started for a GB over on Airshows, so i think that will be continued here with a GR3 and T4. The T4 is in concrete as im sure ive seen one of the choices OOB, during the 80s, but if someone else comes along wanting to build their own F-4 and GR3, im sure i will find something else!
Arabest,
Geoff.

Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
Quick question.
I know the aircraft has to have been I service in the 80s but does it have to be in an 80s colour scheme?
I just need to check my references for my proposed project.

Oh choices choices, will have to see what I have in the stash, probably a hawk - yes I think a 1/48 Hawk T1W in grey with a black tail and some kind of cat on it!

From my understanding of the proposal for this GB, the aircraft and scheme should be any RAF type that was in service from 1980 to 1989.atech wrote:Quick question.

Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
My problem is that I have evidence that the scheme I want to do definately existed in Aug 1979, but I dont know for how long.
I will take a chance and see.
My next problem is how I am going to post pictures since my ISP seems to have closed down my personal webspace!

Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
Find out if the scheme existed past 1st January 1980 if you can?
If not, then how close was it? Personally I don`t see a problem with it and I`m happy for others to express their views.
Of course the 1980`s wasn`t just grey/green wrap around. BoB aircraft could be included providing the markings are from that decade as well as rasberry ripple. I`m pretty sure their were a few experimental schemes knocking around as well so it`s quite open when it comes to choice.

The only 80`s RAF type I have in the stash is the F-4J(UK). Although I may wait to see what Santa brings as I won`t be joining in until then.ArabJazzie wrote:Nice TC,

Hate to say it mate, but if your referring to a 74 Sqn Hawk, they didn`t exist until 1992.steve149c wrote:Oh choices choices, will have to see what I have in the stash, probably a hawk - yes I think a 1/48 Hawk T1W in grey with a black tail and some kind of cat on it!

I shall be building the matchbox 1/72 phantom! But can't decide whether to do it in royal navy or RAF camo?
Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
The name of the GB should be able to help you decide that particular question stu.....Typhoon2 wrote:I shall be building the matchbox 1/72 phantom! But can't decide whether to do it in royal navy or RAF camo?

Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
Bingo
Have found a picture of my colour scheme dated May 1980, so its game on and I will be joining Waghorn41 by building one of the Brawdy Hunters.
Just need to sort out my webspace now so that I can post pictures.

Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
The Royal Navy passed all its Phantoms to the RAF in 1978, so its not likely to work if you are doing a 1980s GB.

Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
I'm thinking of doing a Jag, doesn't look like the shop has any in though. If I can't get one of those I will probably end up finally ordering the replacement parts for my Airfix Vulcan.
Re: 1980`s RAF Group Build Chat Thread
Hmm time to start thinking.......Jaguar T bird i think.
