A formation flight of 2 Squirrels and 2 Griffins took place this afternoon as 'COBHAM FORMATION' with a chase/photo ship Squirrel in tow as 'SHAWBURY12'. Included a flypast at Shawbury, flight around the local area for photos and a fly through at Sleap airfield.

End of an era today with the last Griffins and Squirrels departing for storage...

Departing this morning to Hurn were Griffins ZJ238/Y and ZJ707/O and Squirrels ZJ264 & ZJ267 as 'Shawbury100 combine' (Squirrels may have had a separate callsign?)

Departing this afternoon to Hurn were Griffins ZJ234/S and ZJ708/K as 'Shawbury90 combine' and Squirrels ZJ268 & ZJ271 as 'Shawbury 11 combine'

Squirrel ZJ271 having the honour of being the last Cobham a/c to depart.

A couple of visitors today bringing back the crews that took the last Griffin and Squirrels to Hurn yesterday.

ZA766 Gazelle as 'AAC744' & Bell 212 ZJ969 as 'AAC735'

Many thanks on your updates (withdraw) of the Shawbury DHFS Squirrel and Griffin Fleet.
So does this only leave the Army machines active.

243 244 254 are all at Bournemouth, 246 is at Newquay as are the two Griffins you mention

Many thanks I appreciate it. I had heard Shawbury was very anti-spotter, a shame really as the visits were excellent.

Do you have a departure date for ZJ269 (G-BXJN) I noticed it doesn’t seem to have been sold to the states?

A bit more info come to light.....

ZJ269 left Shawbury along with ZJ256,260,266 & 275 all by road on the 28/11/17 to Hurn, pressumably in containers for shipment. G-BXJN (ZJ269) has now been struck off the UK register and followed the other 4 onto the FAA register as N41BM again with Dalks Leasing. Registered on the 29/03/18

ZJ269 did indeed arrive here by road but wasn't crated, it was in plain sight on the truck. There was no sign of the now U.S civil registered Squirrels so they could well have arrived in containers or may have already been shipped out
