I'm off ooop north in a few weeks and thought i'd stop off at RAF Shawbury, i've never been before and was wondering if there are any decent viewing areas ? i've used the PB-Photos map. Just really looking for some advice from other members ?

L,
Surprised no-one has responded to this yet...
Although I'm local (I live in the village) - I don't look over the fence very often!
Depends whether you're a serials or photos person.
Serials and codes can be easily read-off from the northwest side of the field (close to the old Medium Bomber Dispersal) - if you're after photos - it can be a bit of a challenge (depending on wind direction).
If the Helis are doing instrument work they tend to launch from the runway in use.
If doing visual departures they generally launch fromthe grass - via North Point (near the Fire Section just north of the Squirrel ASP) or South Point near the Visiting Aircraft Ramp.
You can walk right upto Crash Gate 1 onthe fence line if you park up in the lane next to Smithers RAPRA.
Hope this answers your question?
