US military aircraft avoiding Belgium airspace?

Post by foxfire » Sun Sep 12, 2021 11:50 am

I've noticed that US military aircraft seem to avoid flying over Belgium airspace when in some cases it would be the shortest route between two places. I guess it's for a political reason but just wondering why?

Air Traffic Control reasons. For example, routing Eastbound Reach's over the Southern UK via REDFA rather than KOK takes them away from the very congested choke point at DVR. This frees up Flow Control slots which can be used by civil traffic which would otherwise be delayed.
