New scanner advice
Since being away, and seeing the other spotters with far better scanners, I was just wondering what the experts recommend.
Middle of the road price range if possible.
Any experiences from scanner users out there would be great.
Thank you

You will find perceived wisdom from those on FC with far better intel than me will point you towards the Uniden Bearcat UBC125XLT as the weapon of choice
It covers both the civil and military air bands and is very reasonably priced

Re: New scanner advice
I have had many scanners over the years, my current go-to is the UBC125XLT. Does everything I want, sensitive and easy to use and easily programmed using Nick Bailey’s excellent Scan125 program. Just my opinion of course
Re: New scanner advice
I was a Yupiteru user since the 1980s but changed in recent years and now use a couple of UBC125XLTs. Very pleased with them. Good scanning speed, and alpha-tagging of channels is very handy. The supplied antenna isn't the best, but that's easily fixed by replacing it with a third-party alternative, my choice being a Watson W-889 or a W-901. Other makes and models are available!
Re: New scanner advice
I know there are many state of the art scanners on the market but just can't stray from my trusty Yupi 7000 and 7001 scanners.

The thing about “ state of the art “ scanners is they tend to need “state of the art” users, Paddyboy offers sound advice for most.
Re: New scanner advice
7001? Haven't heard of that model. Do you mean 7100? I still have a Yupiteru 7100 but it's been sitting in its box doing nothing for a couple of years now. Whilst I would say the Yupi is more sensitive and has better audio than the UBC125XLT, the latter trumps it for me with its faster scan rate and alpha-tagging. Plus the Uniden runs on two AA batteries instead of the Yupi's four.
Re: New scanner advice
Ha ha.. typo strikes again... it is indeed a 7100.
Great scanner... just love it... can't bring myself to try anything else... as for the 7000 that suffered the common fault of memory loss... just needs a repair but haven't bothered with it as I have the 7100.

Re: New scanner advice
Having worked in the world of professional VHF/UHF comms for a quarter of a century, there's only three pearls of wisdom I can offer:
1. Nothing is made as well as it was back in the good old days!
2. Good old equipment is harder to repair, or get bits for.
3. Get a UBC125XLT. End of!!

I ought to admit to being a bit of a Luddite myself
I have a Yupiteru MVT 9000 MkII and MVT 7100 as my weapons of choice
Should they ever become inoperable or, worse, unrepairable, then a 125 would be my port of call
Until such time…….

Re: New scanner advice
both my Yuppi MVT 7100 are working fine there is not much that goes wrong with them apart from when they dump the Frqs But that is usually the Capacitor or on one occasion the four wires on the circuit board 2 to the speaker and 2 to the battery connections the latter having dry joins to the circuit board or broken inside the sheathing, easy fix, so anyone having probs theres a tip for you.

Re: New scanner advice
Thanks for the tip baz1... might have a look at having the MVT7000 fixed.
