Not entirely sure where to put this, so I guess maybe in here is best for starters, as it's fairly basic.
There's a helipad on the car park roof opposite the Women's Hospital on the new QE site and I've seen Pumas using a field near the Selly Oak hospital site. Presumably there's some sort of ATC for aircraft coming into and out of these, but does anyone know freqs or indeed who would be the point of contact for a heli looking to use these sites? Obviously, most of them are civvy - the Air Ambulance, but there are the occasional Puma and Chinooks in and out.
Any ideas?
Steve
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....
QE Hospital, Birmingham
Re: QE Hospital, Birmingham
Thanks Baz,
The nearest airport/airfield would be Birmingham International Airport, but that's a good 8 miles distant, although that was my first thought. You would think the heli would need to have direct contact with the hospital, but I'm only guessing here!

Re: QE Hospital, Birmingham
most hospitals use the heli pads via comms this the ambulance HQ, who then phone the hospital (red dedicated line - bat phone) let them know eta, injuries ect, some of the dedicated hosp / airambulances have a dedicated crew room site i.e. HEMS in London.
well this is how it was in Luton when i was detached form the RAF medical services for 6 months to Luton and Dunstable Hospital & the local Ambulance service
strangley lincoln helipad is tiny and right by a bus stop!

Re: QE Hospital, Birmingham
I'm about half a mile from the QE and it's been quite busy of late with Chinooks, Puma, Apache and Merlin. We get the occasional Lynx, Gazelle and A109 as well.
Some of these are on task of course but I'm told that it is also used for practice approaches.

Thanks Chris and Mark, very helpful and if it's on secure channels, probably not the sort of thing I could pick up and go and have a look. I wouldn't want to take photo's if the heli was delivered injured troops, just have a look.
Gareth - I think there was at least 5 aircraft hovering round in the dark last Thursday (24th), I'd guess they were mil because of the numbers, but it was far too dark to see exactly what they were.
A month back I saw two Pumas landing opposite the entrance to Selly Oak Hospital on Raddlebarn Road, in a playing field. Also, seen a couple of Chinooks in the last month.
