Which photoshop?

For beginners to the hobby to have all those "newbie" questions answered...

I think your choices would be:

- Adobe Photoshop (quite expensive, but fully featured) ~£200-300
- Adobe Photoshop Elements (far less costly, slimmed down version of Photoshop and a bit more friendly if you aren't experienced with photo-editing) ~£60
- GIMP (Open source alternative to Photoshop. Can sometimes be a bit complicated, but well equipped) ~Free
- Apple Aperture or Apple iPhoto (Not used them, but I understand they are Apple alternatives of Photoshop. You may already have iPhoto)

It all depends on what you'll need to use them for - basic levels tweaking, cropping etc or full-on image manipulation.

Your camera probably came bundled with some photo software so check those discs in case you have something usable already.

I'd probably suggest trying GIMP, just because it won't cost you anything to try. I personally like Photoshop Elements and would recommend it.
