Various tie-ups required April 1986

Post by Ronald Jeremy » Wed Aug 10, 2022 11:08 am

Afternoon chaps,

I've a few gaps in my logs from a trip around eastern England back in April 1986. Not entirely sure the name of the exercise at the time but it was just after the Americans had bombed Libya so Midenhall was stacked out with KC-10's which, I'm sur,e will stir memories. Anyway if anyone can assist with the below it'd be appreciated....

Binbrook 22.04.86
2 x Lightnings coded DB and DF

Coningsby 22.04.86
1 x Jaguar coded GJ plus two other unread (note there was six in total and I have XX733, XX955 and XZ400 in my log)

Wittering 22.04.86
2 x Harriers coded D and F

Wattisham 23.04.86
1 x Lightning - decoy. Not sure if there was more than one. Can't remember

Mildenhall 23.04.86
1 x FAA Sabre

Wittering 23.04.86
6 x Harriers coded 04, 12, E, F, K and S

Alternatively if anyone has gaps in their logs which I can perhaps help with them plase ask.

Ron

The two decoy Lightnings at Wattisham were F1s XM139 and XM147, in grey and green camo. These both departed in January 1986.

Gate guard Lightning F1A XM192 would have still been there, all silver.

Hi Ron

If it helps the following were reported in BAR and/or SEAR during exercise 'Elder Forest' (21st-24th April 1986) or in April '86 generally...

Binbrook
Lightnings LTF - XP749/DB & XS923/DF

Coningsby
Jaguar 'GJ' was not reported in BAR on the 22nd among the six that 'attacked' the field at 15:37, but they do quote XZ400/GH, XX733/GL & XX955/GM, with the rest unidentified. However, 'GJ' was noted at its home base of Coltishall that month as being worn by XX738 (54 Sqn)

Wittering
Harriers, 1 Sqn - XZ993/04 & XW934/12
Harriers, 233OCU - XV744/D; XZ997/E; XZ994/F; XZ138/K & XW266/S

Best wishes
