Fairford 1987 Chilean Pitts c/n

Post by Sea_Harrier_FA2 » Thu Jan 25, 2024 8:30 am

I have a query about the c/n of the Pitts coded 2. BARG quote 2232 but other sources (eg Planebase) suggest 2235. Both of which were Chilean. Anyone able to confirm please and advise the source of info.

Many thanks,

Bob

Scramble doesn't have any c/n's unfortunately. I did find a pdf of the official checklist for that year and they have it as c/n 2232.

https://www.alessandrozucchelli.it/PDF/IAT87.PDF

BARG 7/87 report has it as c/n 2232, so does SEAR 8/1987

I could be wrong but isn't Planebase based on what other people have entered into the database so if they got it wrong, it's wrong ?

I found a photo on Abpic.com which claims to be from IAT 1987 where the photographer quotes '2' as c/n 2235 but the photo was uploaded in 2016 so the photographer my have got mixed up with IAT 1989 when '2' is quoted as c/n 2235, can't tell the year from the pic.

All in all, general consensus seems to be it's c/n 2232 for IAT 1987.

Hope that helps Bob

The aircraft coded 2 in 1987 was c/n 2232 (c/n checked).
The aircraft coded 2 in 1989 was c/n 2235 I believe, although I don't have a record of it being checked.

I was not suggesting which one was right / wrong just there was a difference. No report is infallible to writing it down wrong or typos. Looks like that has been cleared up for which I am very grateful and I will try and get the incorrect versions corrected.

I will go with 2232 for 1987 but I now need to look at my 1989 log now 🙄.

Thanks again

Bob
