VC-9 at Warsaw Okecie Poland in 1997

Post by Yammer » Tue Apr 23, 2024 4:09 pm

Hi

Would anybody be able to help fill in a gap in an old log book of mine,

Noted at Warsaw Okecie ( now Chopin ) Poland on Tuesday 1st April 1997 was a USAF VC-9 in the Presidential colours ( 89 MAW )

this turned my head as the VC-9 were not particularly common in Europe.

All clues welcomed - thanks

I had a look through the 'BAR' issues for the first half of 1997, but there is nothing for an 89th AW VC-9 visiting Poland. However,
C-9C 73-1683 89th AW was seen at Mildenhall on 4/4 on its way from Prague to Keflavik. I'm not saying that this is definitely the aircraft seen in Poland on 1/4; but as you rightly point out, sightings in Europe of 89th AW C-/VC-9s in Presidential colours were pretty rare. Best I can do!
