MCAS Tustin and Yuma 14 Oct 1991

Hi All,

As I continue to wend my way through my loggings of 1991, I have a few issues with sightings at MCAS Yuma (heat haze etc) on 14 Oct 1991 which I am hopeful I can get some help on. All were on the large ramp at the top of the airfield and therefore detached to Yuma. I suspect positive sightings will be the only way to confirm.

I have spent several weeks trawling BARG, internet, pictures etc but have drawn a blank with the following in bold:

HMLA-169 Bell AH-1W

1625??(SN-303). This was recorded as 162542 in Mar 1993

HMLA-269 Bell UH-IN

160454(HF-41) & 160460(HF-43) both confirmed serial code tie-ups by me on the day.

159(191) (HF-31), 159775(?), 15968(8) and codes (HF-37) plus (HF-11) all read off

HMLA-269 Bell AH-1W

160743(HF-01) confirmed serial code tie up by me on the day.

160814 & 160817 read off by me, but no code tie ups could well be (HF-05) & (HF-07) which I noted that day.

(HF-13) also read off by me and may well be 160107.

HMH-464 CH-53

Codes (EN-108) was 161257 during Gulf War 90/91, (EN-109) was 162524 at some point in 1991, (EN-154) was 162522 in 2011, (EN-167).

Ther is a debate that the leading 1 of the code was carried as it could be a trick of the light but they did wear the leading 1 during the 90/91 Gulf War period so I am tempted to believe I read them off accurately.

HMH-466 CH-53

Confirmed serial to code tie up was 161386(YK-53)

Codes (YK-54) and (YK-6(2)). The second was badly worn and I could only make out the bottom line of the second digit. It could be 162460(YK-62) or 162482(YK-63)

MCAS Tustin

Similar issues at MCAS Tustin. However, does anyone have a list of aircraft embarked on USS Okinawa for the embarkation of 13th MEU formed around HMM-166 6 Jan 1992-6 Jul 1992. I am particularly interested in tying up the following:

CH-53

Codes YX-620, YX-622 & YX-623. 161991(YX-621) was identified.

HMM-166 CH-46

(YX-603) was 156424 Nov 89 and then 153316 by Mar 93
(YX-611) was 154799 by Mar 93
