Can any one identify a group of F4s (x8?) which passed through Lossiemouth heading to USA, perhaps late 80s early 90s. MTIA

Howdo, DJS. I think you need to repeat this request under the 'Old Serial Tie-up' section. Sorry I can't help.

The only SJ's I ever saw in the UK were at the Alconbury Openhouse on 24-Sept-83 were 74-0621/SJ y, 74-0646/SJ y, 74-1047/SJ y, 74-1649/SJ y. They were part of a Group of 24 SJ's deployed as part of Crested Cap to Ramstein from 5th Sept - 3 Oct. http://www.sharpshooter-maj.com/html/deploy83.htm .

12 SJ's deployed to Wittmundhaven between 1st and 29th July 1985 http://www.sharpshooter-maj.com/html/deploy85.htm

12 SJ's deployed to Karup between 29th April and 21st May 1987 http://www.sharpshooter-maj.com/html/deploy87.htm

12 SJ's deployed to Karup between 31st May and 28th June 1989 http://www.sharpshooter-maj.com/html/deploy89.htm

SJ was the first frontline TAC unit to convert to F-15E, and this occured between 1989 and 1991, so the June 89 one is probably the latest it could have been.

So if you can narrow down the dates a bit then perhaps they can be ID'ed.

DJS,
I checked BARG for 1987-89 and can only find a single occasion when SJ F-4s visited Lossie and that was on 9/5/87 when the following visited - 72-1489, 73-1164, 73-1185 & 73-1195, all blue fin-tipped. They were 4 of 12 that deployed to Karup, Denmark from 29/4-21/5/87 so the visit to Lossie doesn't appear to be connected to their return stateside.

Thanks Ian, all four were also noted at Leuchars on the day before.

With thanks to a couple of Scotavnet members after I asked for info on their visit. :thumb:
