RAF Fairford 1991 & 2003

Post by Everett1285 » Sun Oct 11, 2020 2:45 pm

Hi,
Can anyone please help confirm and update the following logs hastily written down during two periods of working at Fairford. The two periods in question are 02.02.91 - 10.03.91 & 02.04.03 - 16.04.03. when I was also very fortunate to have a guided tour inside the cockpit of 80168 [58-0168] ‘What’s up Doc’ 379 BW and even got the opportunity to write on the very first bombs being loaded on that particular aircraft. As stated earlier these logs were hastily written down as I didn't want to upset any of the american security teams in situ. I'm particularly interested in the confirming all serials and tie up of individual nose arts. Any help would be most appreciated.

Can't confirm the names at this time although some look familiar.
All the serials and units are correct except 60-0040 which crashed in Dec'88. I noted 0040 as 61-0040/MT.

Some notes from 'BAR' re. the 1991 deployement

80168 was named 'What's up Doc?'
80245 was named 'Equipoise II'

76498 carried no tail markings but had an outline of the State of New York on the forward fuselage.
80237 carried scrubbed-out 379th BW tail markings but sported a 93rd BW badge on the nose.
80168 and 92597 showed signs of scrubbed-out 379th BW markings; both are known to have been assigned to the unit in 6/90.

Hi,

Many thanks to Everett1285 for posting the list of BUFF's on station at Fairford for April 2003, would these have been on base from Mid March to early May 2003?

Ask as I have 2 visits, which have tied up most from the list, but have a few others that could be miss reads.

23rd March 2003 Logged

0033, 0047, 0004, 60 023, 016, 1007, 0060, 60044, 040 all Minot birds, plus Blackhawk 206/IS

No FY logged for all as either not visible or not marked.

Regards Andy

Many thanks for that, 016 I logged must be a misread for 015 then. There were 11 on station when I visited, the other 2 unreadable, so 3 were out on mission.
