I don't have a record of the first RAF Chinook at Aldergrove but I had a visit around with the RAF unit there in late 11/1989 and at the time, the RAF were still using all Wessex HC.2, no sign of any Chinook. The earliest I can see for a report of a RAF Chinook at Aldergrove was 06/1990 but that was ZA720/EP. I'm not sure that "ED" was even a correct code for a RAF Chinook, there was an "EO" with 7 Sqn which was ZA671 at around that time.

ZA681 was coded ED in 1996 when I saw it.

I sure it was,but the OP was talking about the 1989/1990 era and I don't think there was a ED back then but happy to be proved wrong.

OK, you didn't mention that part of the information before. Do you have any idea of a more accurate date for your flight, as may be able to find it out from Prestwick movements from the time. Month/Year?

04/12/1989 ZA714/EX Chinook HC.1 7 Sqn was the only Chinook reported at PIK for the whole month of December.

Checked 11/1989 as well and only two reported the whole month [on the same day, so probably arrived together]
29/11/1989 ZA713/EN and ZA683/EW Chinook HC.1 7 Sqn.

These were the only Chinook movements reported at PIK in November and December 1989.
