27-Jun-1989 Coningsby French Mirage F1 serials

Post by Sea_Harrier_FA2 » Wed Dec 29, 2021 8:20 am

Noted returning from a mission, in pouring rain if I recall, with two 5 Sqn ADV's were two Mirage F1's callsign Tartan 3 and 4 coded 30-MC and 30-ML. I have searched all of 1989 (and beyond) SEAR, BARG and Scramble Reims airshow reports but have not come up with conclusive IDs. Can anyone help? I assume they were on some sort of exchange as flying with 5 Sqn.

30-MC Mirage F1 Tartan 3
- 253 6.86 Reims airshow Scramble
30-ML Mirage F1 Tartan 4
- 267 05.89 SEAR

Many thanks

Bob

this may help or hinder.

SEAR 2/1990

Mirage F. 1C : 220/30-MC noted 9/89 (but could have been 30-MC much earlier)

I found a unit rundown in BARG 4/1989 but there was no mention of a 30-MC or 30-ML

they did have 253 as being 30-LM as of 6/88

but no mention of where 267 was assigned.

Taken from the excellent Delta Reflex (French Aviation Enthusiasts) publication on the Mirage F.1C and B:
220 30-MC 2.89-3.91 (ex 5-OP 2.89), went for major o/haul 3.91-7.91 then to 12-KR 7.91, 12-ZG 1.92, conv to F.1CT 2.95
267 30-ML 6.89-10.91 (ex 5-AC 6.89), o/haul 10.91-11.92 and converted to F.1CT.
Note: 30-ML was 6 from 3.88-5.88, then to EAA601 at Chateaudun for storage 5.88-10.89, distributed to Cambrai as 12-ZQ 10.89.
As you can see, the dates for 267 are very close to your sighting !
