Nord 1101 Noralpha/Ranier 1

Nord 1101 Noralpha/Ranier 1

I am struggling to find any information on t'web about the Ranier 1 in French Military service. In August 1976 I saw one registered F-BGVY displayed outside a garage in Belfort, France. I have found out that the construction number was c/n 185, however I can find no references or photos of it in military service. Does anyone know if all Nord 1101s were Raniers for military service and if so where I can find anymore info about them. I have struggled in the past to find any info about older French military aircraft and this is no exception!

No, they weren't all military. 185 was.
Nearly all were, only some below c/n 57 were purely civil.
Regarding info, you usually need to buy books to get decent info on things like this - not everything is on the web....

Thanks Andy. Which books would give details of Ramiers or the French AF - the only thing I have is a Paul Jackson guide from the mid-seventies? And do you have any info on c/n 185's history?

Had a look at the French section of European Wrecks and Relics by Mike Bursall 1989 to see if anything there.Only references I found were

Take a look in the 2021/22 - EAFD by Ian Carroll, published by MACH.III and you will find it is down as F-BGVY & w/o.08.06.1971

and I must admit that I always thought it was the Noralpha but this appears to be the civil version, whilst the Military knew it as like you say the Ramier and it was in service from 1947 - mid.1960's

Personally I have 4 logged - 3 @ La Ferte - Alais and 1 @ Etampes and he has it known as the RAMIER Not the RANIER

I have just found another Publication that I have and that is designated French Military Aviation compiled by Paul A Jackson and Published by Midland Counties Publications ( Sadly No Longer Trading )
and was First Published in 1975 with an updated/revised new edition coming out in 1979 *which is the one I have
it is ISBN 0 904597 17 2 ( hardback ) or 0 904597 18 0 ( paperback ) Good Luck on your further digging on the afore said A/c

Indeed, Ian Carroll's list gives a good review of which ones were civil (not many) and which military.
I'm sure he won't mind me reproducing a list he produced over 10 years ago - bear in mind some of the fates/current locations may be out of date.
As I said early, very few were purely civil - about 15 in total. If you look at the registry dates for 185/F-BGVY you will see that it had c 14 years of prior military service.
