RCH188 has just passed 40W on the pond, expecting 51N30W 1710Z.

Also heard RCH189 about an hour prior, it was 15-5832.

RCH188 is 14-5815/AK and was showing callsign as "REACH18" on departure from St. Johns this afternoon (per ADS-B flight-data)
RCH189 is 15-5832/AK and was showing callsign as "155832" on departure from St. Johns this afternoon (per ADS-B flight-data)

Departed 15.00 - 15.15BST

Just a note of thanks to gadwall58 for all your daily updates on these movements.....

Can anyone offer an explanation/speculation on why the Islanders/Defenders adopt an "M" suffix to their callsigns when established in their "operatiional area"? Pretty obvious what they're up to (no need to dive into that here), but why is the M necessary? I also presume their civilian cousins don't adopt the same callsign change approach.

Thank you for the kind words but It might interest you to know that Police aircraft over here, when on station, depending on task, also adopt the Mike callsign such as Scout 2M or Police 441M etc.
