XX741 Photoshoot at Bentwaters.

Post by Alber Ratman » Tue Sep 24, 2019 12:53 am

The Bentwaters Cold War Museum are holding a twilight Photo Shoot on Saturday the 12th of October 2019. That date happens to be the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of a British Jaguar. The museum is fund raising to get XX741 finally fast taxi capable. This is the only place you can catch a Jag in her element. Deployed in the woods.

Sorry but £50 for one aircraft is just ridiculous, good cause or not. I daresay there are plenty out there that will stump up but one of them won't be me (at a more realistic price I may have been interested)
Cheers

Some people spend more than that on a night in the pub boozing. It's down to the individual how you spend your cash. Ours has gone into buying, rebuilding, refitting and testing the ONLY live Jaguar outside India. Spares, Engines, fuel all cost money. If people want to see engine and taxi runs in the future, then we need to finance it. It ain't a bottomless pit, and we have other airframes to restore, and a unique museum to run for the public. We are ALL volunteers, every penny goes into the museum coffers for day to day running costs and future projects. There is more than just the Jaguar to be seen on the day, (although only the Jaguar will be on 'location'). It all comes down to one's priorities.

I think the people that did spend 50 quid would disagree. What did they get? A full blown 4 hours of images they would not get anywhere else. Weapons loading, maintenance activies on the frame, authentic aged re enactors in correct clothing using correct equipment and Aircrew / groundcrew shots similar to what would have been seen if a Jaguar was deployed in Denmark or another European Cold War Deployment. It was alway going to be more that a picture of one Aeroplane.

Having seen the picture on several groups I agree with Alber Ratman

Depends what you're after from the hobby I suppose. Two tanks of diesel, hotel, and 4 hours with one aircraft...£200+ for me. No thanks, that's far too much money.

However, the photos I have seen do look good, and the reenactors - who are of the correct age and in correct uniforms - are much better than some of the others that you see at photoshoots nowadays.

The plan for next year will be the Jag running, and the Harrier GR3, which will get a repaint, it's also electrically live and complete sans Pegasus 103. (anybody got a runner to sell?)
Eventually the Phantom will be added, in camo.
