Boxted Airfield (Station 150),near Langham,Colchester[/b]
This wartime airfield was opened in Spring 1943,home,successively, to 386BG,354FG and 56FG,the latter stating until September 1945 ,when the airfield was handed back to the RAF who finally vacated in 1947. Today the airfield is mainly farmland and an industrial estate, but there is an airfield museum www.boxted-museum.com. This contains a memorial to the USAAF airmen who lost their lives whilst operating from the airfield. In Park Lane on the site of the end of the main runway there is a memorial to these groups and the RAF.

Hi all finally got to spend time at Down Ampney in Glos one of the most important Transport airfields in the latter half of WW2 not just for flying troops and material out but also bringing back the wounded . Parked at the church then walked up to the airfield memorial and around the old taxiway to the end of the runway catching some movements out of Brize ZZ336 was busy in the circuit then back along the footpath to the church and spent a peaceful hour in the church itself .A pic heavy post this one

The dedication of the new memorial at Bexwell took place recently, which is in honour of those who flew from RAF Downham Market. The original memorial now has a plate added, which names all the squadrons and shows the aircraft they flew.
Flt Lt Colin Bell DFC was in attendance, now 102 years old. Colin flew Mosquitos on fifty missions while serving with 608 squadron at RAF Downham Market.

Always both interesting and thought provoking to see these memorials.
The two VCs on the Downham Market memorial are in memory of Flt Sgt Arthur Aaron who lost his life as captain of a 218 Sqn Stirling on 12 August 1943 and Sqn Ldr Ian Bazalgette who lost his life as captain of a 635 Sqn Lancaster on 4 August 1944.
We will remember them.

Hi all
I spent last Friday Int he Silverstone Museum which is housed in the wartime hangar which has been really well renovated . There is a good display about the the airfield and the work of the OTU . As well as a rolling screen with the names of those lost while flying from Silverstone and Turweston there are pictures of famous racing drivers who also where lost during WW2 .
There is also a memorial to the crew of a 578Sqn Halifax which crashed on the airfield while making an emergency landing returning from the infamous Nuremberg raid Image
There is also a plaque on the Trig point just behind the Luffield corner grandstand it was the 105th and last aircraft lost by the RAF out oft force of nearly 800 sent out that night .

Also on the bridge over A43 between Brackley and Turweston village are these

While out today I stopped off at this memorial which is located near me in Horndean Hampshire. Quite a story, especially referencing a V1 chase. Rest in peace Australian heroes.

I have also posted a link to the address which gives more information about the memorial. I hope the link works.
