NAF El Centro request

Post by slogen51 » Sat Sep 14, 2024 2:25 pm

Hi

Any one know which three RAF Chinooks are currently at El Centro?

On 2/09/2024 ( Labour day!!) I read off ZH896 on finals to land and join two other RAF Chinooks already parked up

The only other bits we saw were 8 T-45 Goshawk of which we managed to read the codes off seven - heat haze was a oh fudge obviously)

Thanks

Hello Slogen,
If ZH896 has been at El Centro since August 2023 then ZK563 was featured in the RAF publicity photo at the time
Not sure if that one is still out there too
Perhaps some of the local aircraft photographers out there would have pictures to confirm all three
I would be interested to see which other two are definitely out there
Best regards,
Paul

Do they just leave chinooks over there all year round then instead of transporting them every deployment?

I think they stay for quite a while - did a RAF Chinook have an accident at El Centro?

I thought it would be easy to tie up the other two Chinooks :P

Mike, I think ZK563 is one of your other 2. ZA708 is/was deployed too but I'm not 100% sure of its current whereabouts.

Sadly for you, to the best of my knowledge, ZK557 is currently deployed on Op Shader.

Thanks for the replies

A little longer to wait for ZK557

Reminds me I need an Odiham trip to read off 555 properly
