She is an old lady - she is bound to get some leakage now and then. I wonder if she is sponsored by Tenna Lady???
Re: Vulcan Depature time ?
indeed the serviceability has been excellent this year, however that's of little consolation to the hundreds of thousands at B/mth beach today and Shoreham too. Of course these things happen, but it really couldn't have come at a worse time. With current funding already in arrears, I'm not sure they'll recover.Prometheusuk wrote:She has done extremely well this year, a testament to the crews.
It would appear that the Sea Vixen is also not making an appearance which means the Heritage Flypast will not take place.
With regards to the Sea Vixen, it seems the pilot was called up on military duty which is a ridiculous situation for the operators to find themselves in at their hometown airshow.
They really need to find an ex-military pilot that can do the job as this does their credibility no favours at all.
Re: Vulcan Depature time ?
I don't think that's as simple as it sounds. The problem is that many of the guys who fly these a/c have other jobs mostly other flying so may also mean they are otherwise required especially if it's for an airline - If you spread the available hours between too many pilots it doesn't do any of them any favours as none get the flying hours they require to stay current.

The Vulcan is probably one of the best serviced aircraft out there & the ground crew do a marvelous job of keeping her serviceable for flight.
Its just unfortunate that one of the tanks has sprung a leak, but at least the fault was spotted on the ground at her home base where she can receive the best maintenance available to her.
Of course, it is a real shame that she never appeared at the shows, but regardless of whether people are dissapointed or not TVOC made the right decision not to fly on the day.
With regards to the affects it will have on the funds & donations, we'll just have to wait and see what happens about that.

And there's plenty more where that came from!

Yes it's the right decision, but that could well be the end of their season if the fuel bag problem takes as much time to resolve as it did previously. For example if it's going to take two weeks to fix and cost £xx,000 pounds then you wonder whether it'll be considered worth doing.TankBuster wrote:Of course, it is a real shame that she never appeared at the shows, but regardless of whether people are dissapointed or not TVOC made the right decision not to fly on the day.

I only say that in light of their current 2013 funding deficit of over £200,000 AND the fact they must do an expensive wing mod (another £400,000 required) before any further flying can happen next year.
So essentially they need £600,000 before the end of October just to even consider flight next year. Although it's not VttS' fault, I can't imagine many of the 300,000 or so at B/mth yesterday will be very forthcoming with donations, nor will the good folk at Leuchars, Southport and Dublin if they don't make those shows. Somehow VttS always seem to drag themselves out of the mud, I just hope they can do it again and I get another chance to see the Vulcan flying next year instead.

It would be interesting to know what the average donation of those who pay go to an air show would be as opposed to those who frequent a free seaside show who in the main wouldn't be classed as aviation enthusiasts. I know there are many go to air shows go for a day out as opposed to watching a/c but at a free show that number I would imagine is far higher.

Interim report on fuel leak here: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/493/ ... eport.html
I'd say it's almost certain they wont make Leuchars.
