Rolls... Real or Fake?
Hi all,
I've just seen this footage on youtube, which allegedly shows XH558 being rolled? Personally I'm not convinced that this footage is real as it just shows several frames one after another of the roll taking place. To be convinced it is real I would want to see the uninterrupted video footage of the roll taking place.
What do you guys make of it?...

Re: Rolls... Real or Fake?
I'm sure we'll find out once the CAA have completed their investigation in to the alleged incident.

It looks like a few photos stitched together from an air display then turned into a movie.
Has a complaint been made to the CAA then?

Re: Rolls... Real or Fake?
I have seen '558 on numerous displays this year and wingovers, for whatever reason have been to the right.
The other issue with the video is that the 'object' alters in size between shots. Surely if it was a series of shots, from the same camera, the aircraft would be uniform?
I am sure that the aircraft is capable of rolling (as the Mk 1 was) but would you risk it? Especially 'post' Shoreham?
It just does not stack up to me.

I believe they are genuine. I also believe the earth is flat, that there are fairies at the bottom of my garden and that England will win the Rugby World Cup Final this afternoon.

The CAA. In a direct quote in the article, and in several other publications earlier this week.Richard B wrote: Source, who said the Caa are looking in to it,

Funny how these photos resurface after the CAA publicise an investigation.

Re: Rolls... Real or Fake?
Anybody claiming it's not genuine like to explain to me what about it is fake, and why several people (these two are the third and fourth sequence I've seen since the incident happened) would go to the effort of faking a sequence of photos?
There were lots of eyewitness accounts on Twitter the day it happened, and they stopped naming the crews in advance of all subsequent flights too. Why would you stop doing that if it's fabricated?

"a CAA spokesman said: “The CAA is investigating a recent flight when the Vulcan aircraft may have performed a roll manoeuvre. This did not occur during an air display.”"
And no, a phonecall most certainly wouldn't be enough in such a case.

Re: Rolls... Real or Fake?
Video footage would be a convincer, but jumpy step by step images are open to all sorts of fiddling with to make 558 appear to be rolling. If the CAA were really that bothered then surely 558 would have been grounded before her final flight. Seems to be a case of people claiming to have seen a roll, but as we all know, some of the wingovers could be mistaken for this if seen from a distance.
No doubt it'll all come out in the wash, but as 558 is no longer airworthy any findings might as well be swept under the carpet!

Unlikely, criminal proceedings against the crew are certainly possible, probably starting with their licenses being turned in to confetti!TankBuster wrote:No doubt it'll all come out in the wash, but as 558 is no longer airworthy any findings might as well be swept under the carpet!
