First fast taxi run post retirement!
Excellent to learn of 558's first fast taxy run today since her retirement .
It was a low key and unannounced run at RHA's request in order for the airport and VTTS to test things out before they invite members of the public to view any future runs.
The news of the run was announced on Facebook after the event, so as to avoid crowds gathering around the airport.

And there's plenty more where that came from!

Really hope the airport are accommodating to future public runs.
Could help promote the airport and bring in more cash for both them and VTTS/Canberra to the Sky.

they know the Vulcan can run up and down the Runway, so what was they testing?
Seems a costly test with fuel and all the other costs involved.
Surely such a test would have been with say a small group of say 200 people to test
things out , ready for a full on public run day with a few thousand spectators.

Systems and engines I would think. You can't just roll it out of the hangar on a run day on the off chance that everything might work!
Cheers

I believe that 558 is at a place where fast taxi runs will rarely happen........................

Re: First fast taxi run post retirement!
With the Wellesbourne Vulcan running once a year & the CWJ Days at Bruntingthorpe being twice a year? There isn't too much of a target for them to beat! Maybe 2 runs a year if it had gone to Brunty?
I do think that 'VTTG'.... (that's right "to the Ground') are severely over-estimating the attraction. XH558 is now just another 'dead' Vulcan, of which there are plenty around the Country. At least the properly dead ones are easily accessible & you can get to see the pilot-eye view for yourself at no extra charge beyond Museum admission.
I can't begin to imagine the torturous work-up that allows the minted un-washed into a live Airport, much less airside in these times of permanent escalating high-security. Afraid a dayglow jacket & strip-search aint gonna cut-it !!
