Remember seeing a Vulcan climbing up from Scampton in the 70's over Lincoln, and seeing the camouflage underneath and thinking for one moment it was flying upside down!!

I don't know, but learned later that they used it for the Giant Voice/ Red Flag 77-79.

Most of the Vulcan fleet at that time had camouflage on their undersides.

Back in 1977 I was on a museum visit to RAF Waddington and managed to photograph XM607 in the wrap around 'desert' scheme that was specially applied for that year's Red Flag Exercise - as I recall at that time it was unique to the Vulcans in the Waddington fleet and we were not meant to photograph it!

I had an interesting chat about those markings with Vulcan author Craig Bulman at one of Newark's V-Force reunion events.

I've just added a low-res scan to my Twitter timeline: https://twitter.com/DTEPHoward/status/1 ... 8074145793 :ninja:

I have seen a video when the Vulcans participated in Red Flag 77, flying low level through the mountains.
