Sorry, fairly new to this - when do they usually announce the first participants?

December. This year is different but it shouldn't be too much longer. After all, the Covid restrictions are being lifted which should be the green light for the events team.

It's not usually December, it is usually Jan or Feb. USAF displays get announced in December and other self confirms soon after, but the weekly official announcements usually start in Jan/Feb.
First announcements.

2021 - cancelled in Feb - No announcements
2020 - Feb 6th - Danish F16
2019 - Jan 10th - Harrier
2018 - Jan 4th - Invited Countries - 10th Jan Swiss
2017 - Feb 16th German Static announcement
2016 - Jan 26th - USAF F35
If they still stick to the comment made recently of announcements starting in Feb, we should see one this week.

RIAT's head of marketing left earlier this year after having been there for over ten years and the organisation has now outsourced its marketing to an agency so I wouldn't expect the usual recipe this year.

They didn't say Mid Feb, they just said they hope to start in Feb.
Happy New Year from the Air Tattoo!

It's been another strange and challenging year but thank you for your ongoing support of the Air Tattoo and our Charity, The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.

Plans are well under way for the 2022 Air Tattoo taking place from 15-17 July. We hope to start aircraft announcements in February and all the signs are for good participation from Air Arms around the world.

Ticket sales are well ahead of previous years, thanks to your rollovers and good sales for 2022. Many Saturday enclosures have already sold out and we anticipate an early sell out of Saturday admission tickets. Tickets can be bought HERE.

Finally, if you are getting bored of the same old Christmas and New Year TV then why not have a look at the Virtual Air Tattoo from 2020 and 2021. It'll get you in the mood for the real Air Tattoo in the summer!

i think judging by their post on insta and twitter last week asking us to "watch this space", its looking likely we will get the first confirmation this week. probably Thursday as that's usually "announcement day ".

only my interpretation..i don't want shooting if it doesn't happen

You'd think it would have to be something pretty "crowd drawing" for the first announcement such as the Harriers again...just to sell those remaining tickets (and make me buy mine)

Well on the basis that most of today's posts have been positive, at least if we stand at the end of the runway there will be a good USAF flying participation.

That is the confirmed aircraft section. Just nothing in it yet. Tomorrow is the first confirmed update so it will appear there.
