Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread
Seems a bit of an underwhelming update today just the Finnish F-18, I was hoping for a bigger update and more static to be confirmed but seems that's all getting confirmed for this week.
I am not one to criticise RIAT or DBH as they do a great job but the list so far does seem a bit small compared to other years and we will soon be in single figures in weeks until the show so the next few weeks would have to be really big updates to make up the numbers?

Still over 2 months to the show, plenty of time to fill up.
There over 70 a/c ( not including muliples in display teams) confirmed already.
There was just over 300 at RIAT 2018, and 224 at RIAT 2014 (only numbers i could find quickly)
We still have the following to announce participants:
RAF Static
USAF Flying/Static
Italians
French
NATO Flypast participants
Turkish
Dutch
Hungary
Austria and so on...
it will fill up, nothing to worry about.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread
i never get those who complain all the time. We only have seaside shows in NI so to have a show like RIAT just across the water with the worlds military hardware each year is something fantastic for me. You just won't see anything like it anywhere else here.
I still love my seaside shows, but even the weakest RIAT lineup is still the best lineup in the UK and possibly Europe. Bring on July 2019!

I see on the invited list on RIAT website that Poland, Romania and Turkey have ongoing discussions, Mig-21 we know and probably a C-27 for support but what about Poland and Turkey? Hopefully Mig-29 and SU-22 Fitters from Poland and it might be Solo Turk from Turkey as i don't think it would be the Turkish Stars.....Anyway positive signs

Tongue in cheek Mr Knight. Just another unhappy customer which we seem to have many of at the minute. Another referring to riats gone by. We aren't in the past anymore and things in the world are far different. We have less aircraft numbers, we have less aircraft types and we also have less nations getting along with one another. Let's just accept it for what it is.Red-Eye-Knight wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 9:23 pmPeteHemsley wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 8:54 pmShhhhhhhhh,Red-Eye-Knight wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 12:16 pmSeems a bit of an underwhelming update today just the Finnish F-18, I was hoping for a bigger update and more static to be confirmed but seems that's all getting confirmed for this week.

Although your comment wasn't all the negative.... I revert to the saying "too many chefs spoil the broth", but I'll change that to too much negativity can be poisonous.
Just be blessed with what we have and enjoy the show.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread
The display pilot is based in the US isn't he? If they are going to fly him from the US to the UK then surely it would make sense to travel in a US based F16 rather than having to fly a jet from Europe for him to display in..

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread
If flying from US two aircraft required ( one as a spare ) together with a tanker. Also a return flight. Would expect a European based jet to be a much more cost effective option.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread
No offense Mark but how does that make more sense? A European based F-16 would be cheaper to position to Fairford than a U.S. based one. The pilot could hitch a ride over into Mildenhall or come over commercial. The logistics involved to bring one or two over the pond just don't make sense. In saying that, I would rather they did do that, and still could!
Cheers
