Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
My "seriousness" comment was made before the tiger meet/meat posts and been requoted out of context. I'm perfectly ok with the humour, although no-one has yet answered the question to Flightech.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
Dear Flightech.
At the risk of being branded "boring" or castigated for going "off topic" as this is a thread dedicated to RIAT 2020 matters, please allow me to enlighten you with the regard to the existence, meaning and purpose of the NATO Tiger Meet (note accurate spelling).
I'm sure there is a more thorough description and history of NATO Tiger Meets but here's a potted reference for you.
The NATO Tiger Meet was established (obviously by NATO units) as an annual event to extend understanding, co-operation, cameraderie and operational understanding between NATO units, primarily combative but not restricted to fighter units.
It is traditional that the "Meet" rotates between host countries on an annual basis and involves detachments from units that (loosely) have a unit badge that contains a feline of some description, Tiger, Panther, Leopard, Lynx you get the idea.
However, due to consistent unit disbandment throughout Europe that directive has been relaxed quite a bit and units with more tenuous links to everything feline have attended and welcomed into the NATO Tigers fraternity.
One fantastic element of the meetings is that units regularly adorn their aircraft with Tiger markings varying from complete aircraft in a wraparound Tiger scheme to more measly fin or drop tank markings in some cases.
This activity is great if you're a photographer of course and has resulted in some stunning colour schemes over the years and continues to do so, each event has a "Spotters Day" which is usually well organised and allows enthusiasts to view the stunningly adorned aircraft involved.
Anyway....this year's meeting is being hosted in Portugal but has been postponed as mentioned earlier to the same weekend as RIAT hence the mention in the RIAT section.
I hope that explains things a bit for you but you can find out lots more by searching "NATO Tigers" on any search engine of your choice.
I now await all the earache relating to paragraph one of my post.
Take care and keep referring to Fightercontrol.
Droptank.

Whilst deep down hoping it will not be so, surely the only update we can really expect from hereon is "Sorry but RIAT 2020 has been cancelled due to COVID19"
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
Well we won't be getting any flybys at RIAT from Farnborough sadly.
Just been on Sky expecting a formal announcement of cancellation this afternoon.

Unfortunately, given the current situation it was only a matter of time. A really difficult decision to make, but no doubt the correct one.
Thanks to the team for their hard work and fingers crossed for next year.

Christ on a bike, we just got past all the doom and gloom surrounding this year's, do we really have to start on next year's with nearly 18 months to go?
Cheers

Absolutely gutted, but not surprised. Shaping up to be a good year, with the reconnaissance side of things, but completely understandable. Means next year will be even better
Let's also be grateful they have not only allowed us the options of a refund, but also, the chance to migrate tickets to next year.

In all honesty I hadn't booked yet. Now it is cancelled I'll certainly be sending them a donation.James Cutting wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:08 pmAbsolutely gutted, but not surprised. Was to be expected with everything else that has been cancelled over the last week or so...Gutted but means I now get a trip to yeovilton and riat next year to make up for this year.......So glad I never booked train tickets or accommodation just my friat paid for but sounds like a good idea for them to rollover people's tickets for next years show if they wish to.

I need to cancel my hotel...Think it's too early to book in there for 2021, as I know hotel chains don't release dates until a year beforehand. Think we been lucky being able to roll over to next year.Red-Eye-Knight wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:14 pmWas to be expected with everything else that has been cancelled over the last week or so...Gutted but means I now get a trip to yeovilton and riat next year to make up for this year.......So glad I never booked train tickets or accommodation just my friat paid for but sounds like a good idea for them to rollover people's tickets for next years show if they wish to.

I'll be transferring my booking to 2021 but will need to contact my hotel. I normally book on a "free cancellation" basis but this wasn't an option when I made the booking. Hopefully they'll show some flexibility.
