Anyway! Enough of the lighthearted jokey stuff. For one such as myself who was born entitled & now diagnosed with Terminal Cynicism I have a simple mantra for this RIAT 2022 situation (applicable to numerous other topics too!)
"When you no longer enjoy what you're doing... Stop doing it!"
PS:- Bought my tickets already!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
We want RIAT BACK
here you go Riat with A few jets, helicopters and decent static display
No Not that sort of RIAT we want a better one
Ok here is a better one with some Typhoons and F18s
No still not eneough we want more
Ok we will get some USAF next week
No they are only in static we want them flying
and on and on and on,
No matter what RIAT do they are no going to please everyone , thankfully most of us here know shows etc are never going to be where they were even 5 years ago never mind 25 years or more ago (1979 my first IAT)
This year so far looks fine considering all the challenges going on in the world

1989 was my favourite. The SR71 certainly made the ground shake

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
Surely the point of an open discussion forum such as this is is so Person A can say: "I don't believe what RIAT are offering so far this year meets my expectations for the reasons X, Y, Z" and then person B can say "I understand your opinion but I think it's good for reasons X, Y, Z"
All I've seen from this thread is that if you dare say that the RIAT line-up this year isn't up to your expectations (which anyone is entitled to do) then you're shot down in flames as either a whinger or someone who should get a new hobby, get out of the 80s etc - no discussion just "if you don't like RIAT this year you're wrong" which is a very odd way to approach a discussion forum in my most humble opinion.

Which premier inn are you staying at?James Cutting wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 7:16 amIt's all part of what risk are you willing to take?
£640 for me on 3 days at RIAT, 2 nights at a Premier Inn - Yes I could do it cheaper, but I value my comfort and sleep! Yes there could be some not-so-great updates, but hey, not been to an airshow for 3 years so will take what I can get! And yes the weather can be pants, that's also the risk I'm willing to take
A week in Spain in April was £680 - The risk there is a potential for some bad weather - So what! I wanted a holiday
You know it is all down to what you want to risk and for how much. Life's to short to sit here not being happy with things, or comparing it to way back when. If you aren't happy, refund your tickets!!

Edit: Apologies, I got the quotes all mixed up yesterday; this is what I meant (I think)....Seahornet1 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 6:34 pmYou have every right to state state your opinion to your heart's content. What has got people's backs up is that you said that it was everybody's opinion! Well, it's certainly not mine! I'm happy that we're getting a show, and I'm happy with what we're going to get for the money.

Funny
That each year this thread reads like an episode of Dads Army or Allo Allo, as there are always the same punchlines about how poor the line up is and how good the old times were.
Even I have the same lines.
RIAT is always about:
A very variated military air show (with special flypast)
A huge static with lots of big ones and special line ups
Air forces and aircraft from all parts of the world
So far this year lives up to these rules, knowing the world (European) situation. And the very simple fact that countries used to use great numbers of (fighter) aircraft of many different types, days long gone by.
No other European Air Show comes close to RIAT.
The reason I will be travelling to the UK this summer for the 25th time since 1985 to visit a RIAT/IAT/ATI.
And I like the very British festival like atmosphere at the show. RIAT a superb day out.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN2022051600 ... al/defenseSEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean Air Force's aerobatic flight team plans to join three international air shows in Britain in July, Seoul officials said Monday, marking its first visit to the European nation in 10 years.
The Black Eagles team is set to participate in the Southport Air Show, Royal International Air Tattoo, and Farnborough Airshow from July 9-22, as part of military diplomacy to promote South Korean-made aircraft.
The team last attended a British show in 2012. Later, it joined flight events in Singapore and Malaysia but did not travel to Britain due largely to geographical distance, according to the officials.
The team of 12 pilots will fly eight T-50B supersonic trainer jets to stage various performances, including its trademark show of drawing with smoke tails the taegeuk mark, a signature symbol of South Korea's national flag.
A joint flight with its British counterpart, the Red Arrows, has also been arranged to highlight the two countries' friendship, the Air Force said.
Next month, the Air Force plans to disassemble nine T-50B jets, including a spare, and transport them to Britain by air. South Korea will also utilize three C-130 transport aircraft to ship other pieces of equipment.
Following its trip to Britain, the team plans to visit 13 other countries, including Poland, Slovakia, Egypt and the Philippines, to promote South Korean military assets, such as the FA-50 light attack aircraft.
The squad's flight distance before its return home is estimated to be 20,000 kilometers, the Air Force said.
