Swindon Shuttle bus - parking

Post by sneezy24 » Fri Jun 17, 2022 8:11 am

Hi folks,

Hopefully a hypothetical question, but if there are rail strikes on the RIAT weekend, is parking in Swindon a possibility?

I have booked tickets for Saturday with Swindon shuttle bus, the Ts and Cs on the RIAT website says that I CANNOT bring a car with these tickets.

My only option (other than a hotel in Swindon which is very expensive) is to drive to Swindon and park close-ish to the station.

There seems to be a fair bit of parking close to the station, and I will be arriving early so hopefully before they fill with shoppers.

Also doing P&V Thursday and Monday so obviously driving for these.

Any thoughts/comments/ideas?

I had a similar issue in 2018 or 2019, I messaged DBH and was told it would not be a problem if I drove and parked at Fairford.

Possibly worth dropping them a message and explaining your change in circumstances. Hopefully should be fine.

Thanks,

I would hope they will recognise that if trains are not running we can't get to the station by train!

Hopefully some sense will have prevailed and the dispute will be over, in which case I will go back to plan A and come to Swindon on the train (Reading to Swindon - simple!)

Thanks. Thinking of going plan B and parking - not sure if I want to do train in hot weather, A/C in the car works well!
Also found Brunel West and Whalebridge which are reasonably priced.
I'll be arriving early so shouldn't be full of shoppers.

Decided to drive, parked in Whalebridge multi-storey (2nd floor, but there was space on 1st).
5 min walk to the bus station (once I realised there was an underpass which shortened my walk!)
10 mins to get on the bus, FFD 40 mins later!

Think this will be a yearly thing now.

I came away just gone 4 (after the Typhoon), 10 mins to get on a bus, about 40mins back, home at 5:45..... Full A/C in the car until I got to the M4....
