Departure day

Post by csnewton2701 » Sat Jul 16, 2022 7:11 pm

Does anyone know what runway they usually use for departures? Staying at Townsend farm and hoping to catch what I missed on Wednesday.

Almost always R27 (i.e. departing from East to West)

Displays today have been using 09 when operating from that end. Whilst Brize will be busier Monday so 27 will be preferred, I wouldn't be surprised to see some 09 departures. Especially helicopters up that end, as they do a 27 departure from the 09 threshold

Edit, wind dependent if course.

Wind looks to be from the south most of tomorrow and Monday.

That should favour 25 at Brize so should mean 27 at Fairford.

What display acts are parked eastern end?

Looks to be Typhoons, C-27, and display teams?

Is that the same as today's runway?

Yes, if your sat in the crowd 27 is right to left, 09 is from the left to right.

KC-390 is due into Farnborough at 10.20 so likely to be one of the earlier departures.

What times do the main bulk of the Departures leave, I am not bothered about getting to the front so will arriving at 10am mean I will have missed much?

They often leave from 8am I believe so you may miss a fair bit.

I’m in Townsend farm but don’t have tickets for the park & view. Is there anywhere I can see departures from? Mainly want to see the German Tornados…

Can anyone who has been to a RIAT departures day remember what time the departures start? As I am not going to be fighting for a front row view I might as well get there in time for the majority of the departures.

I really can't see big stuff battling through the crowded taxiway to 27 before at least 11 and no real benefit backtracking. I reckon most heavies at West end will go out 09. Just my hunch...

Thanks for that otherwise would have missed it. Best position to 27 end then to get airborne stuff!
