I think its pretty much a case of using common sense, rather than being pedantic

If you're 'confrontational' they will be ... chill and try to be obliging... it will be the cheaper option ;)

Im not being pedantic and i will use common sense but the road signs are very clear about about stopping at anytime along that road, now they have thought up another cash cow to milk, will they be targeting all cars that have no choice but to stop. They have made it very clear they will not open the gates until a certain time, no matter how long the queue gets (enter ticket enforcers)

What do cars do, go into Bracebridge Heath and turn around and re join the queue again at the back :/

To us this is all madness, to them its another way of making money, why not open the gates at the first opportunity and have no hold ups at all

Is this for park and view as well?
If so I see the cock up from two years ago making a repeat this year! When those two daft police officers caused a massive traffic jam because they decided to move every single car off the verge, so people had to go up and down that road until the gates finally opened.

By now I wonder why they don't actually use the verge which is wide enough as a queuing lane up to a certain point?

Finally for the Airshow days This is in my opinion not good enough, at any event you will have a queue, some people may live at a distance and turn up slightly earlier than expected to find out they get a £70 fine unless they drive round in circles. It will be a miracle if everyone turns up at 08:30 and I don't see these "enforcement officers" having a leg to stand on against hundreds of people,it will put people off going to the airshow I think, Why not open the outside car parks first?

If you enter via the gate where you need to follow a muddy track and cross the runway, I believe you can queue before the show there up until it reaches the road?

1. RAF Waddington is still a Operational air base, and if you not aware had a recent security issue with the Anti-drone brigade.
2. As aircraft are flying they have to ensure roads including verges and crash gates are kept clear for emergency vehicles.
3. Local traffic still has to transit by the roads 607, 15 etc to go work to work in Lincoln and surrounding areas, including those who will be working at the show and that includes RAF personal stationed there who will be working over the show weekend (leave ban).

By the way I live local and attend the air show and find using the bus on Saturdays very easy. There are three bus routes on air show day, firstly the shuttle bus from the train station and then you have the No. 13 bus from the bus station and goes via the bottom of Lincoln to Waddo (the one I use as it part of the VIP red route into the show) and its a simple 3 min walk in. The No. 1 bus also goes via Bracebridge Heath and can get slow in the traffic.

Any way gates will be open as stated and the flying programme does not start till 10ish every one should get in time to see the flying in time and you will be able see the statics (hangar 3 good for a static (hint)) and other exhibitions either before or after the flying.

To be honest that slipped my mind, but I do think that they could open up off base parking early like they do for RIAT?

Makes a lot of things easier in my opinion :thumb:

A few weeks ago they did say they have a large static to announce, but dont know of anything as of yet.

I am assured after meeting the airshow team today, the gates shall be open at 8am and if possible before, but 8 am is the designated time of which they wish to comply with.
Only two years ago were the gates late in opening and that was due to a health and safety issue and totally out of the airshow teams control. They are very much on top of this issue this year.

The enforcement is for all 5 days, to include departures.
any guesses on what the large static? might be guys
I see theres still no news on large static?

Considering that the tickets have been taken off oline sale, I know that their would be very little time for the tickets to be purchased online and posted hence taking them off sale. But I would have at least announced the "big" appearances if there are any prior to taking the tickets off sale, increasing any chances of people wanting to see specific airframes that could be?

It's that B-1 that 'diverted' into Mildenhall. It's a set up for it to attend Waddo and RIAT! :pop:

Was just having a nosey at the Waddington website, and it appears two 617 squadron jets have been removed from the static line up? :( Originally three were listed for the static. Were these removed when the Lancaster & 617 Sqn flypast was added to the flying?

In a honest reply.

1. Every one compares RIAT with RAF Waddington air show, this is not a true comparison.
2. RIAT is the RAF open day, sponsored by commercial resources with charity as an add on with contracts being signed akin to the army's DVD day.
3. RAF Waddington air show is based upon the old open day e.g RAF at home days for families station personal, and due to its success, RAF Waddington air show has been such a huge attendance and it has become what it is now.

So please remember the guys on the gates are not just there for the air show but work there all year round.. So are not there just there.. so please give some slack. Remember some of them have just been on Op tours and awaiting to see there families and they end up carrying out security, car parking, hosting stall holders etc.

BTW (under clause 5 of this board/forum rules) make the most of this year as next year there is high (very high) possibility there not be a air show.

In the end every one can plan there days at the show and have in mind the weather and aircraft technical issues are out side even the RAF's control'...

The airshow has the largest attendance figures for any event for many miles around 100,000+ on each day? How do the organizers and police possibly expect that number of people to suddenly materialize at a specific time? For anyone who has attended the event regularly, they will realise that the traffic congestion depends on many things and varies vastly from year to year, the main factor I would guess being the weather on the morning.

My point being that if you invite 100,000 to pay to attend an event on your property, then you have anticipate that they can't all time their journey to arrive at a time of your convenience and making threats is just ridiculous. The organisers should put in place contingencies and if they choose not to, then they will be well aware of the consequences. In which case you end up with the traffic chaos of a couple of years ago?

Phil

Its Impossible to stop people turning up early and put an effective enforcement in place, everyone wants to beat the "main" traffic so they leave home early and arrive early, ok you don't want people parking on the verges to watch the display etc, but you can not expect as written above 80,000+ to turn up at 8am.

I will find out how bad things get tomorrow for P&V :pop:

Just got my Sunday tickets this evening and got the Friday & Monday booked for arrivals/departures. Just picked up on this thread and really hope this on the spot fine business is nonsense as stuborn refusal to open gates early will simply see a return of the farce from 2011 arrivals.

According to a post on UKAR, there was no enforcement-type people of any sort anywhere near Waddington this morning.
