How do you actually get to Duxford airshow by car?
The IWM website suggests the only way to get to Duxford BoB Airshow is via Junction 10 of the M11. Is that correct? Or are there any easier ways into the airshow parking (I have a Parking Permit!). TIA
Re: How do you actually get to Duxford airshow by car?
If you can get onto the A10 to Royston, the A505 takes you there. Otherwise there are a few back roads.

Well first of all you open the car door ,get in ,start the engine look at the road map/or programme the sat nav for IWM Duxford. then follow directions and arrive hopefully within a few hours.

Damn!...you're starting to sound like me? Sometimes I question whether people should be allowed out on their own...without a Carer to attend to all their personal needs, like....Where am I? or, What exactly did those Aliens do to me?

Well the Duxford website said DONT follow the sat-nav, signs on the motorway were also confusing. In they end I just followed the sat-nav via J10 of the M11 and got there just fine and drove straight in. I sometimes wonder if the IWM is full of civil servants....
Re: How do you actually get to Duxford airshow by car?

The more important question, for me anyway, is:
How far did you have to walk from your parked car to the flight line?
Once again the parking was poorly organised and the attendants were very free with their use of foul language and aggressive attitude.
Not a pleasant experience for the second time this year.
Remember; learn by rote. ;-)

I was there at 8am so got to park just by the flyover bridge so not too far to walk however after a day of walking up and down the site with cameras my poor old hips were trashed! It does however seem as if IWM forget the basics - like a map of how to drive there on their website and providing aircraft IDs on their exhibits.
Re: How do you actually get to Duxford airshow by car?
IWM do have a 'map of how to get there' on their website - see here - https://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-duxford/getting-here - there's a map on the page that can be zoomed in/out as required and guidance on how to get there by train, car, coach or bus etc.
What do you mean by 'aircraft IDs on their exhibits', are you talking about the aircraft that were on the flight line and flying in the show?

I meant for the airshow. The notes sent out to ticket holders had no map and said do not follow the sat-nav. There were even signs on the motorway saying do not follow the sat-nav and I almost turned off at J11. In the event I just followed the sat-nav which took me the normal route in and all was fine.
As for information on IDs of aircraft there was no ID info on most of the aircraft in the restoration hangar, or on various artifacts from crash sites, and it would be simple enough to provide this. Still it provides me with hours of fun trying to find out more about these artifacts I suppose! In most cases the IWMs archive listing isn't very informative either and I trawl the internet and RAF/Luftwaffe records for details.

The IDs of the stuff in the restoration hangar and the hangar with flying aircraft can be a bit of a puzzle as signs may be around, but they get moved/shuffled around as airframes are moved around and may not always be in the ideal place. It's part of the charm of an active airfield and restoration workshop with various things going on.
I had a similar experience driving to Duxford on Sunday. Missed the J11 that all the signs told me I should take, went off the M1 at J10 and drove straight onto the parking lot across the A505. I got there just after 9am but had to park in the far corner of the field already. Fine for me, didn't mind the walk. I did feel my feet at the end of the day though....
