Duxford Battle of Britain 2020 - Cancelled

Post by jasonT1981 » Wed May 13, 2020 4:42 pm

Cancelled
It is with great sadness that we have taken the decision to cancel the Duxford Battle of Britain Proms and the 80th Anniversary Battle of Britain Air Show 2020. We were looking forward to the Air Show as much as the thousands of visitors who had bought tickets for what promised to be a brilliant weekend.
We have been working tirelessly with our partners including Public Health England and South Cambridgeshire District Council in order to explore all avenues for hosting the event. However, we take our responsibility for the safety of our visitors and local community very seriously and feel it would be irresponsible to continue with the event in this rapidly-changing climate.

We are devastated to have to take this decision, and want to thank our visitors, supporters, partners, neighbours and staff members for their incredible support over the past few days and weeks. IWM, like many other museums across the country, is under significant financial pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic so it is a huge blow to have to cancel one of our biggest events less than a week before it takes place. We are confident that our visitors, partners and supporters understand we would not have taken lightly a decision of this magnitude.

We are hugely sorry about the disruption that this cancellation will cause for everyone. We will be in touch with everyone who has purchased a ticket to offer refunds and options to donate your ticket to IWM or consider membership opportunities with access to a host of benefits including free entry to all IWM sites and much more for a whole year.
We promise to return with a packed programme for our next Air Show season and will release details about our 2021 programme in due course.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support for IWM.

Duxford have announced ambitious plans for their BoB show to be 3 days now
Cancelling Duxford Air Festival and Flying Legends last month disappointed the IWM team as much as air show fans. We are still working hard to plan for an amazing 80th Anniversary Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show, with special measures to protect the safety of visitors, volunteers and staff.

In these unprecedented times, we will be capping attendance to our events this year. And so to allow more people to be part of it, the 80th Anniversary Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show weekend is now a spectacular three-day event! The new Duxford Battle of Britain Proms on Friday 18 September will start off our bumper Air Show commemorations, filled with flying and entertainment, climaxing with sunset flypasts and an evening filled with music.

IWM Members will enjoy exclusive priority access to the new Duxford Battle of Britain Proms tickets from 12:00 PM, Thursday 14 May. Look out for our email tomorrow, direct to your inbox, with more information on how to book.

Looks very positive, and an excellent reason to join the IWM membership scheme..well worth it.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

I've just looked at the site, is it me or have the prices now gone up?

Its showing as £36 per adult plus £5 parking permit, don't remember it being that much pre lockdown?

I just had a quick look, yes for the show £36:00 per adult and parking fee too, I don't remember paying to park previously, however it does look like cheaper entry as a member, depends how often you want to visit I guess..

Yes, 20% off if a premium member.

I think they have just removed the 'early bird' price point they used to have, everyone paying the same now.

The public Grandstand has been removed for 2020
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DUXFORD BATTLE OF BRITAIN AIRSHOW GRANDSTAND TICKET
The 80th anniversary Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show is still expected to go ahead on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 September.

We welcome millions of visitors to our museums and historic sites every year. The wellbeing of our visitors, staff and volunteers will always be our top priority.

After careful consideration, taking into account government guidelines on social distancing, we have taken the decision to remove the Grandstand Experience from this year’s event. We will refund your Grandstand Experience ticket, while your Air Show ticket will remain valid and can be used on the day..

I've booked my tickets for the Saturday, I've got all fingers and toes crossed, if not 2021 will be a hectic year for shows.

Has anyone had confirmation this is definitely on ?

We are only 9 weeks away and there are no scheduled mass crowd activities allowed anywhere in the intervening period ?

It's very odd, just announced that the Ryder Cup has just been scrubbed because they can't accommodate spectators ?

I'm baffled.

I've got our tickets for me and my two little daughters. If it goes ahead, awesome something has to be done to move us (safely) towards normal. If not I'll happily carry them over to next May's show and keep watching the Ospreys and Eagles scooting around above the house!
Cheers,

Due to be held in the US this year, not UK. I’m hopeful that Duxford may go ahead although I’m also intrigued as to the standard of air show it will be. I’ve no doubt it will be different to what we’ve seen in previous years and entry / exit to the air show will be even more of a nightmare than previous years!

OV-22s and F-15s scooting around above your house, you're a very lucky cap RJ79! :Wow:

I am indeed LF, it’s aviation heaven here, most things that land on 24 at Lakenheath come overhead. Gally’s, 747’s and C-17 make appearances at some times too. Even better that the little ones run out shouting and waving at the pilots as well! :D

Something new this year. Engine runs and dedicated static area for aircraft not in the flying display
We're introducing new areas especially for our enthusiast fans. Ground Running Engines will showcase engines removed from the air craft to see their magnificent mechanics up close. And we'll be creating a dedicated Static Aircraft outdoor area to showcase aircraft not featured in the air show, to enjoy the beauty of the collections we have to offer all year round.
