Unfortunately the RAF Merlin Mk3 will no longer be attending.

Nice static additions again, looking good for statics this year....

Are you sure about the RAF Merlin?
When I was on base at VL last week with 848 they said they were hoping to have at least 3 Merlin at air day, all with FAA aircrew...... :S
I Got the Information Direct from the Air Day Facebook Page, Hopefully Something can be Sorted out and at Least One can Appear on Static.

Talking of Statics I Hope Yeovilton will Park the Transports with Enough Space to Photograph from all Angles.

Posted on Facebook Late Last Night.

Air Day's pyrotechnics are second to none! Nowhere else in the UK will you see anything like it. We're also one of the few airshows which allow aircraft to deploy flares. This year we expect to see the following, subject to confirmation:

F/A-18 Hornet - Flares
Gripen - Flares (tbc)
F16 - Flares
A109 - Flares
Maritime Role Demo - Flares
Red Star Rebels - Pyros (tbc)
Commando Assault - Pyros!

Enjoy!

Thats a Shame, Hopefully Yeovilton can Ask them to Attend for Static and Arrange for Another of there Display Teams to be Included in the Line Up, as all the Other Swiss Teams are Available Yeoviltons Weekend.

Google translate:

The intended display as F/A-18 pilot professional military pilots, it is up to the completion of the entry / training failed to master the specific challenges of Flugvorführprogrammes in the required, highest quality. Therefore, he and the responsible supervisor of the Air Force have jointly decided to release him from this task. The decision relates expressly not pilot his position as F/A-18-Staffel-. The presentation of the F/A-18 (Swiss Hornet Display) air show / flying demonstrations will therefore temporarily suspended. About the further course of the season F/A-18-Hornet-Display be decided at a later date.

Basically, pilot failed his PDA. That's got to be a pretty rare occurrence, surely?!

Here is Today's Update in Full.

PARTICIPATION UPDATE
RN Sea King Mk5 (SAR) - Static
Czech Air Force L-159 ALCA - Flying

CANCELLATIONS
Czech Air Force Mi-24 Hind
Seafire - Kennet Aviation

We are disappointed that the Hind is no longer attending but extremely grateful to the Czech Air Force that they will be sending a replacement in the form of the L-159 ALCA (Light Combat Aircraft/Fast Jet Trainer).

The Seafire rebuild is progressing well but despite great efforts it will not be ready in time for Air Day.

As far as the Sea Vixen is concerned we are including it in all our planning arrangements for Air Day based on the information we have received from the operators. However, it will not be confirmed until we get the nod.

It is a shame the 'Hind' has been cancelled but I'm pleased it has been replaced with the L-159 ALCA. I have not seen one of those in the flesh so looking forward to that....

As for the Hornet, well I spoke to a friend of mine about an hour ago, he is an official photographer for the Swiss, and he txt me this;
'' doubt very much if the Hornet will make it to Yeovilton as the display pilot has stood down; not enough time to train up a new one....''

So expect it to cancel soon but let's all hope they send a suitable replacement/s..... :D
