Air Day departures

Post by shaggy101 » Wed Jul 04, 2018 10:39 pm

Hi everyone, I'm looking at doing departures on the Sunday, can anyone recommend a good spot please? I've heard of the sheep field & I presume that's the field on the other side of the river?

There's sheep in many fields, but between the river & airfield fence could work better. Bear in mind that 09 could still be the Duty Runway, but some performance jets will ignore that to avoid a lengthy taxi. You must decide what shots you want to try for? If you're not going 'all-in' @ 27 you could try Pyle Lane for taxi shots to 09 + take-off....or just take-off from 27??
It appears 'tjs' & 'MRRT' have access to good info' & may be able to advise what & which side of the Church Services anything might depart? Good Luck!

Cheers mate, from what I gather not a lot leaves on Sunday, most either Saturday evening or on Monday. Looks like I'll have to find something else to occupy myself with on Sunday

Sheep field is the field to the south east of the RWY27 approach, next to where the old Harrier ski jump used to be. This is closed on Fri and Sat, but open again on Sun.

But, different weather sites disagree on the wind direction for Sunday. If the wind is more than a few knots from the east (as it has been all week), then they'll use RWY09. For that you want to be at the western end.

However, note that all the roads around Yeovilton have parking/waiting restrictions that are active till 12:00 on Sunday lunchtime. Nothing wrong with walking down the roads, but you'll have to park your car/bike somewhere else.

Mi-8 just routed eastbound over the centre of Basingstoke, not showing on ADS-B.

Thanks again for the heads up. Worked out fine. Seen here at departure from Weeze, former RAF Laarbruch's 2sq shelterarea, around 16:00 local.
