Arrivals Day
Arrivals Day
What is arrivals day like?
I'm interested in photographing in the air and on the ground, I have no clue as to whether it is any good at Yeovilton.
I've visited the museum - very good, but not been to a show here at all.
I've done arrivals at RIAT Fairford several times (and departure days) and enjoyed it, how does Yeovilton compare?
Where is the arrivals enclosure relative to runways, taxiways etc.
Sorry for the questions, complete newbie for Yeovilton! (not interested in the show, British GP weekend!)

Re: Arrivals Day
Hi! Just as a disclaimer, the following views are my own opinions and you'll get a lot of people slating it, but this is my interpretation!
I've done arrivals twice (2017,18) and I've enjoyed both equally! The area dedicated for the arrivals area is the enclosure on the show day, so as an arrival attendee, you have to access to the grass area on the ground or you can go up to the grandstand - whatever suits you, there's usually always plenty of space. Aircraft wise, its like RIAT - Sometimes it's a constant stream for a good amount of time but the majority at Yeovilton is maybe 5-10 movements per hour.
Positive's - It's a very relaxed, enjoyable day with no stress about getting there early to secure a seat. You also get a good amount of practices usually to keep you entertained.
Negative's - It is a relatively short day as by law they have to kick everyone out in time for the validations, as public supposedly aren't allowed to be on base for validations but are allowed for practices.
Hope this helps!

Thanks!
Might give it a go, can you get tickets 'on the day', or advance only?

Re: Arrivals Day
A few other bits of info, You have to park up in a field near the threshold then when they are ready they will let you drive in. Once you park up (behind the enclosue) you enter the enclosure and are not allowed to leave it to walk around the base. At leaving time you have to return to your car and exit the way you came in. I think you get a half hour window in which to leave. There's no hanging around to see what else comes in, you have to leave when they say.
Arrivals is only a couple of hours but you do get to wander around the enclosure including the grass and stands. One marquee is open serving tea, coffee, cold drinks and pre-packed sandwiches at airshow prices.

First time for me this year to take in arrivals. Looking forward to it.

Re: Arrivals Day
Really enjoyed last year. So much so I'm going again this year. Great value for money. Slight delay getting out otherwise stress free. Great that they extended the day to see the Harriers arrive etc.
