A lot of flying tonight?

Post by EGDR » Wed May 29, 2013 9:58 pm

I was just wondering if any of you know if there are any exercises on or if they are just making up for time lost in bad weather. There has been a lot of flying around my house in Cury tonight. Definetly saw a Sea King Mk7 and quite a few Merlins, one of which appeared to touch and go at predannack earlier this evening. Wondering if anyone has any info maybe some serials? :S :D

Hi kylegreetkernow,
Yes, I was wondering much the same thing! At exactly 2200BST (2100Z) last night, (29th) a Sea King arrived to the NW of here, fairly low down and close to the horizon.
It was at times completely out of sight from here but the engines could be heard as if in a hover, or as if it had touched down and continued the engines running.
It went back and forth a number of times and was fairly low in height. At around 2240BST (2140Z) the engines faded and that was it! No other helos or a/c seen or heard.
I was wondering if it was on a search exercise as apparently sometimes happens. Anyone else know what was going on???!!! - many thanks --Paul :thumb:

Night flying..! Nothing more than that..
Some nights the tower is manned till the early hours of the morning for night flying.
Some evenings you might only get a couple of cabs out. Others you might get double figures up and about.and if your lucky even the avangers go up for night flying, from time to time:)
