Currently parked (tail on, so as yet no ID) on the Sea King section is an Irish Coast Guard S-76(i think that's what they are, you know that helicopter-thing that's due to replace the Sea King)

That's an interesting observation mate - let's hope that these replacements are going to be every bit as good, or even better (if that's possible! ) than the good old Sea Kings!! We shall, no doubt see eventually!! --Paul

Quite so, Paul. In my heart,though, no helicopter can be better than a Sea King! (born and raised with'em!)
Actually, i think today's visitor is an S-92, Wednesday's visitor being S-76
Any way, i managed a snap or two of this afternoon's visitor depart .A pleasant enough visitor for a Friday afternoon.

Malf - yes, I agree - I too grew up with the Sea Kings and it will be a real shame to see them retired - good and reliable workhorses!
As I have said on here before though, let us hope that many of these can be saved, either in museums or even to keep a few flying!!
May I suggest an idea (maintenance and cost may be a real issue though!!) - one saved to Classic Air Force for pleasure flights over the coast - I am sure they would have very many customers, especially during the summer months
The new helicopters ,if so, look pretty good - if they have the range, endurance and good strong airframes, then they may well be worthy successors!! --Paul

Saw the Irish cab routing up the north coast towards RCH.
Before this I also saw presumably R169 - a yellow SK anyway routing exactly the same direction so maybe an interesting day at RCH assuming this went there as well. This was around 10am.

I would think an aircraft like the Sea King in the way that it is now (not in civvy config) would be hard to obtain a license to operate for pleasure flights without major alterations to the interior.

As much as I love the Sea Kings I just can not wait to see these flying around our coast all of the time, they are some of my favourite looking helis in the world!

An interesting piece of gen, there, Dave. Perhaps, for similar, or even the very same, reasons, it's why the Irish Coast Guard S-61 visited in early July?
