Hi all,

Am going on holiday next week and the Girlfriend's relatives have said they will take me around Culdrose one day.
Just wondering how it is for photography etc and if its also worth a trip to Predannack while in the area?
Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi PR9,
Yes, indeed Culdrose and Predannack are both good ones to have a look at. Predannack is a satellite aerodrome of Culdrose.
At Predannack there is also an a/c & helo 'graveyard' that they use for fire training etc.
There is a public viewing enclosure at Culdrose and a few other places around the perimeter if you are lucky to find them. I don't know exactly where these are, but I think that the local chaps close to Culdrose do!!!
As far as I am aware, flying, both helos and fixed wing take place just about every day, but operations seem to close down around 1600 local on Fridays.
SAR 771 Sqn with their 24hr, 7 day a week red and grey Sea Kings are always on standby and you may be lucky to see any of these at any time.
Call signs are usually Rescue 192 & Rescue 193.
Other aircraft there include Hawk jets, AEW & other Sea Kings, Merlins, Avenger aircraft, Dauphin helos and a fair few visitors, fly bys etc. They also do gliding at the weekends. All in all, a fairly active aerodrome a lot of the time and also good for photography if you are into that side of the hobby!!
Hope this all helps --Paul :thumb:

Sorry to be fussy, Paul.Although frequently to be seen here, Dauphins actually operate from Newquay.
