Activity?

Post by jingernut » Tue Oct 09, 2018 4:11 pm

Will be down at Praa sands over the half term and wondered if there was much activity at Culdrose to warrant a couple of hours down that way?

Cheers

It's pot luck with Culdrose, been busy over the past couple of weeks though.

Stunning area of the country, enjoy!

I guess that no one covers Culdrose any longer? Certainly no report of the (seven?) ex HMS Queen Elizabeth Merlins that arrived on 9th December! Any id's known?
Cheers, and Happy Christmas to all, TM74

Hi tm74sqn
We 'avid observers' do keep a good look out as to what is happening out of Culdrose, but, for the most part nowadays
there seems to be very little going on. Over our area, apart from an odd Merlin (such as last evening at 1915Z) there seems
to be almost nothing. Scattered Hawk trainers are sometimes seen/heard soon after 0900Z crossing our area - and that's about it!
It is so different to the 1970's & 1980's & 1990's when there was constant activity all of the time - both helicopters & fixed wing!
If only those days could return! --Paul

I'm heading down that way tomorrow for a week, is it worthwhile heading to culdrose for a morning to view some local aircraft.

As am I,

They're on restricted hours but I'd imagine you'll still see a few movements. See you down there, potentially. :thumb:

Thanks, just heard one on the box c/s Tiger, I'd guess a Merlin, doing pattern work for an hour.

Many thanks, Chris! :thumb:

Heard 'Tiger' over St Ives a few times, no visual due to weather unfortunately.

Well I visited today at 1500hr(ish) and only saw a few, nothing on the ground (apart from a Sea Hawk WF225 and Sea King ?????). Flying were 3 merlins ZH847 and ZH839 were read off, plus two Hawks c/s Satan 31/32. Pretty disappointing but anything is better than nothing.
