Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
Yeah, hopefully that means 2 Hercs at Cosford if the Falcons are jumping from one. Cosford said this evening it is still the plan for the jump.
It will, for most of us, be the very last time seeing an active service Herc from the RAF.

Interesting change to the website. A C130 Herc is now listed in the flying. I wonder if this is just the Falcons or if there is something more?
Static herc also added to website now

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I would guess it’s the Falcons the a pass or two by the C-130
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I can't make RIAT this year. Would it be fair to say Cosford is the second best airshow in UK calendar?

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
Cosford line up isn't all that bad this year, the displays announced so far are all very good, the issue with it is that they need to fill it up a bit more as there is no way they are filling a full 6 hours like promised.
I think Flying Legends is looking better though.

Don't believe a word - Cosford is awful!jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 10:08 pmCosford line up isn't all that bad this year, the displays announced so far are all very good, the issue with it is that they need to fill it up a bit more as there is no way they are filling a full 6 hours like promised.

If you can't make Fairford try KB, Radon, Athens, Nato Days - they are all an awesome experience.

Thank you for the recommendations. Kleine Brogel looks very good.Andyph wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 9:01 amDon't believe a word - Cosford is awful!jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 10:08 pmCosford line up isn't all that bad this year, the displays announced so far are all very good, the issue with it is that they need to fill it up a bit more as there is no way they are filling a full 6 hours like promised.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I don't think its fair to say 'Awful' every one of those displays are a good to great display, it isn't the quality that is the issue, it's the quantity. They really need to buff up the flying as it looks like a repeat of last years last minute change to flying times. Lessons haven't been learnt at a marketing level either and the communication is pee poor.
Cosford also have the problem of the civilian insurence. A few displays have already said it is now impossible to display at Cosford due to the MOD insurence being more than their appearence fee.
The line up does look more like a free seaside show though, thats another issue and they need to be open about the future of the Cosford airshow and if it is going to move to a more seaside/family orintated show. If people are going to be paying £35/70 for tickets, only to get a line-up we could expect at a seaside town for free then that may harm ticket sales in the future, expecially as it is the last remaining actual RAF Airshow, you expect displays etc you would not get anywhere else.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I've just checked FLying Legends website. I'm curious to know why they pick the same dates as RIAT.. it would seem to limit ticket sales for a section of enthusiasts who would want to go to both.

You would need to ask the organisers. Regarding ticket sales, well Joe Public will take care of that. Enthusiasts aren't the only ones attending air events.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
There was events already booked on the airfield either side of RIAT weekend so it was only date they could have.
Besides, not the first time RIAT and Legends have clashed

I disagree - it is awful!jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 4:02 pmI don't think its fair to say 'Awful' every one of those displays are a good to great display, it isn't the quality that is the issue, it's the quantity. I couldn't care about the communications - it's the lineup that is cringeworthy.
This is the RAF's only airshow and they serve up this - If I was the CAS I'd be embarrassed to put the services name against it.

If the airshows were football clubs.
KB would be Barcelona - oozing class and quality.
Cosford would be Huddersfield Town clogging it on a wet Tuesday night

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I wouldn’t be surprised if Cosford manage to pull a couple of flypasts from the B1, should still be here for the date I’d imagine. Suspect that may lift the views of the line up.
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
Sally B has been temporarily grounded
***PLEASE READ***
Update statement by B-17 Operator Elly Sallingboe on the Impending FAA B-17 AD - 24 May 2023.
After careful consideration it has now been decided to ground our beloved B-17 until the ongoing wing spar issues is sorted.
As I write this, we are working flat out to complete this difficult task, helped by our devoted team and many friends.
Thank you IWM Duxford for giving us space in the AirSpace Hangar to carry out the required work.
As we mentioned previously our Chief Engineer, Daryl Taplin, is in contact with the FAA, the CAA, and some US B-17 Operators via the B-17 Co-op. The wing spar and the spar caps have been the subject of earlier AD’s for more than twenty years.
Each winter, our engineers complete a comprehensive CAA-approved check with the help of NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) specialist Kearsley Airways. Also, our pilots have flown Sally B very gently, with low G loads for many decades.
We trust that our B-17 is structurally sound and can hopefully fly for many more years and will update you in due course.
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
great
..a cancellation to a poor line up airshow.just what we need although perfectly understandable.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
It is not a definite cancellation yet (See https://www.sallyb.org.uk/flying-programme.htm) though it all depends on how long the NDT takes, whether the results are positive and how quickly they get the green light from the regulator(s).
