Not sure the non military airshow acts will like being described as amateurs though!

Cheers

South Ayrshire Council’s officers have been given the green light to start planning for the delivery of a fantastic new airshow event in Ayr in autumn next year. The event forms part of a proposed calendar of events for 2023.The agreement was reached at this week’s Audit and Governance meeting where officers provided the panel with information on indicative costs for the delivery of the proposed event, which would see the skies across Ayr shore front filled with some amazing aviation displays.
Several other key elements, including the name for the new airshow, ‘The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight‘, have been approved.
Exciting plans are now underway to secure some impressive aviation displays for the proposed airshow. Our strategic partner, theSKYLAB, have already noted interest in booking a range of military displays and they’ve made enquiries about civilian aircraft availability, for what’s shaping up to be an exhilarating event.
Officers were also given the go ahead to begin to identify event sponsors.
Our official charity partner for the proposed airshow is The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. The RAF’s leading welfare charity has been instrumental in supporting serving RAF personnel, veterans and their families in need since its inception in 1919, providing lifelong practical, emotional and financial support.
Gavin Davey, RAF Benevolent Fund Director Scotland, said: “The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight is a great opportunity to work with South Ayrshire Council to reach out to the RAF Family who may be in need in Ayrshire, the West of Scotland and across the country as a whole, and let them know about the extensive welfare support offered by the RAF Benevolent Fund. We look forward to working with all those connected with the airshow to make it a huge success.”
South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark said: “The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight is an event that many local people and visitors have been waiting for, so it’s wonderful to begin to see plans develop and it will be great to work in partnership with the RAF Benevolent Fund. Attracting tourists is key to making South Ayrshire stand out as a destination of choice. A new airshow, as part of a proposed calendar of events for 2023, would raise the profile of Ayr and the surrounding area, adding to its appeal to visitors.”
South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly said: “This is yet another step in the right direction to bring a high profile event to South Ayrshire. More great events and festivals in the area means increased footfall, and The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight would certainly do just that. I’m also pleased to welcome The RAF Benevolent Fund as our charity partner for the event.”
Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey said: “It’s great to see further progress being made towards bringing a spectacular new airshow to Ayr next year. The event would bring a real boost to the local area. I’m delighted that The RAF Benevolent Fund has been chosen as our charity partner and it will be a privilege to support this very worthy cause.“

South Ayrshire Council have announced that they expect to bring the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight to Ayr on Saturday 9 September 2023.
This exciting news follows confirmation earlier this week that officers were given the all clear to begin planning for the new airshow, as part of a proposed calendar of events for 2023.
While the 9 September has been set as the date for the main event, the festivities would begin on Friday 8 September, with a fantastic range of family entertainment to kick-start the weekend. Even after the aircraft head home following Saturday’s displays, the fun won’t stop there. We’ll have even more surprises lined up for Sunday 10 September – so get set for a full weekend of fun, thrills and entertainment!
We’ll bring you more information soon about all that’ll be on offer across the weekend – so watch this space!
South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark said: “It’s fantastic to have the date in the diary for what’s set to be a fabulous event that locals and tourists can look forward to next year. The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight will no doubt leave a lasting impression on everyone who comes along, and I’m sure they’ll want to return again, year after year.”
South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly said: “I’m sure people across South Ayrshire will be as delighted as we are at the announcement of the date for the proposed new airshow. This will allow locals, visitors and businesses to start planning ahead and look forward to an amazing three-day event right here in South Ayrshire.”
Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey said: “Having a date to work towards for the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight allows us to really focus our planning and efforts to bring this amazing event to Ayr. I can’t wait to see all elements of the event to begin to take shape. I know where I’ll be on 9 September next year!”

Thank fudge for that, although I'll believe it when I see it lol. Scotland needs a good air show, this is our only hope!

Always said I would give the show a go, shame it clashes with Kleine Brogel. The draw of Belgian beer is way too much

Council officers are working with partners in the preparation for the event, which will be considered by Council for final approval in March.
Mr Garside-Beattie brings 40 years’ experience in the aerospace and defence industries. 30 of these he spent piloting within the military, where he ultimately achieved the rank of Group Captain. He then went on to exercise his expertise in a range of commercial environments.
With extensive Display Pilot and air display experience, having been FDD at Farnborough, Jersey and Bahrain International Air Displays, Mr Garside-Beattie will work with council officers and event partners to plan the delivery of a spectacular event that will showcase a range of safe, creative and impressive flight displays.

He will advise on safety and regulations; airspace requirements; site planning; and manage all flying display related activities.
Mr Garside-Beattie OBE said: “I am delighted to be selected as Flying Display Director at this prestigious event and I look forward to working with the whole team to bring together a safe and successful event that has youth and innovation at its heart.”
South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark said: “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Mr Garside-Beattie onboard. With over 40 years’ aviation experience, his breadth and depth of knowledge will be invaluable to our officers in the planning and delivery of the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight. His record and achievements speak for themselves, and I know we’re in very safe hands and on track to deliver a fantastic event later this year.”
South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly, said: “Getting the right people in place to work with us in the run up to, and for the duration of this event, is key to its success. Mr Garside-Beattie will be an integral part in the preparation and execution of the new air show and I’m looking forward to enjoying the results of his valued and essential input.”
Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey, said: “The Flying Display Director plays a crucial role in any air show and Mr Garside-Beattie’s impressive career history shows he is the right person to help us deliver an unforgettable air show in September.
