Nick's Aviation Patches

Post by Nick Thompson » Sat Sep 26, 2015 4:16 pm

Relatively new to patches, but after purchasing 9 at Kleine Brogel Spottersday a week ago my collection extensively grew! My plan is to mount them with my printed images with the relevant squadron, aircraft or exercise. Will update as I collect more and as my display ideas come to fruition I'll post them as well.

My latest patch is one from a unit I'd never heard of until I saw it painted on the side of one of the Polish Fitters at Kleine Brogel. :ninja: 1 Eskadra Obsulgi or 1EO for short is the maintenance squadron for the 8/40 ELT. at 21 BLT. Swidwin AB, Poland. A quick search of eBay and 3 days later I had a patch from the unit :thumbs:

My original two patches prior to the KB Spotterday were a JG74 Bavarian Tigers patch and a Ramex Delta M2000N patch with glow in the dark nuclear warning sign that I picked up at RIAT :thumb:

Onto the Belgian patches from last week;

Kleine Brogel AB provides Belgium's QRA in the north of the country and also has provided crews for Belgium's Baltic air policing duties in 2013 and 2015. As well as this it provides this years Belgian F-16 demo flown by "Gizmo". The last patch according to the crews was worn in "Jordania" so I assume related to the current situation in Syria/ Iraq.

Also at KB is the Belgian F-16 OCU. The latter is a limited edition patch, 1 of 2 that were for sale by the squadron at the spottersday.

Finally a patch from 40 Squadron based at Koksijde AB who are currently converting from the Sea King to the NH90 NFH for SAR duties

Thanks for looking and will keep this thread updated as and when I gain any new patches,

Nick

Nice patches there Nick. A good start into the hobby. The Baltic 2013 is one I'm after as well. The last Belgian patch in that foursome may be something they are wearing in Jordan however it's the armament maintenance guys patch and not one that the aircrew would wear. Also the mirage 2000 silhouette is a generic one highlighting their nuclear capability and not from the Ramex delta team. They sell several silhouettes at their stand to include the Ramex delta patches. But welcome to the hobby. I think you will find that patch prices are getting crazy these days! Trading with fellow collectors or buying from the sqns is the way to go. All in all a good haul of patches to start with Nick! Good luck in the future.

Thanks for the clarification on a few of the patches Todd. As you a few of you say some patches can go for silly money :S

Lakenheath patches prices are one of the worst at the moment, people seem to be willing to pay silly money for them. Doesn't help the squadrons themselves are charging £10 to £20 for patches.

Ex Indradhanush are still going for a lot of money although the prices have dropped since they were going for £60+ one even topped £107

Depends what you are after there are sellers on Ebay where you can still pick up some bargains

Continuing the Polish Fitter patches, here is the Swidwin 21BLT patch signifying 5 years of the wing stepping up at Swidwin.

Now onto my latest acquisitions related to my latest trip out with camera last month, Frisian Flag 2016. I was glad to pick up the Finnish patch at Leeuwarden for 10Euro having seen it go for nearly £50 on eBAy!

Patches from left to right; Frisian Flag 2016 patch, Frisian Flag 2016 patch of TLG 31 German AF and Frisian Flag 2016 patch of HävLLv 31 Finnish AF

Then a few patches of the squadrons taking part, two 131st FS patches of the MA ANG Eagles and one of the 6ELT Tigers from 31BLT, Poznan
