I had part of the day here visiting the Classic Airforce. They did not fly anything however there were several visitors.

A C-130 was seen in the circuit from Newquay at around 0930 hrs but had gone by the time arrived at the airfield. An hour or two later another RAF Herc (ZH881) was seen.

Later on Hawk T1 XX330 performed some circuits whilst both FOST Dauphin's were seen. AW101 ZR343 was towed out of the hangar and departed in the afternoon whilst another was seen still in the same hangar.

Adjacent to the museum a man has started moving his collection of gyro's and microlights into a hangar and said he hopes to have up to 15 in total in residence. Nothing ex military but worth a look, and he welcome's vistors.

Can anyone advise where the Shackleton that was on the gate now resides?

The Shackleton still resides In its longtime location down in the RAF area, and whilst it still looks pretty tidy externally thanks to all the hard work of the Cornish Aviation Society little if any work is now being undertaken and I think the aircraft has been fenced off by the RAF who are keen to put a Wessex on display - a type which never served at RAF St. Mawgan. I hear that Classic Air Force will not be taking on the aircraft as it is deemed too difficult to move after all these years in the salt laden air and there is seemingly no budget to maintain the aircraft.

Shame about the Shackleton but hopefully it will find a good home. Wessex were not operated by any units at St Mawgan I seem to recall them visiting for maintenance? The Sea King Traing Unit moved up from Culdrose and eventually became 203(R) Sqn but I remember seeing Wessex in what is now the Classic Airforce hangar.

According to http://www.live-mobile-mode-s.eu/search ... geven=EGDR, Cornwall, UK ZH881 was around at 8.26am GMT (9.26am BST) so it would appear to be the same aircraft that you saw. 2 weeks ago I noted a Hercules over Redruth heading west that returned about 45 minutes later, possibly your Hercules had done something similar.
