SCAMPTON AIRSHOW STATEMENT

Post by reaper493 » Thu Dec 14, 2017 3:07 pm

Not what I hoped would happen, but it would appear no 2018 Scampton Airshow.

The people who thought it was a waste of time must be pleased with them selves.

Sadly it appears they may be right. If they cannot host a show at the home of the RAFAT team during the RAF's 100 th anniversary year, it's most likely gone forever.

Very sad but quite predictable, IMHO, given the current climate of available acts to entice punters :(

Let's hope for more success in the future ;)

And the RAF Museum of Firefighting had to move to accommodate the airshow what a shambles!

That's what happens when you offer overpriced rubbish.

I can't say I'm surprised. In the year leading up to the 2017 show I got the vibe that they were not really bothered about it.

They say they made a loss and lower than expected ticket sales. What did the expect at £40 a ticket. Not surprised this has happened.

What a disappointment no Airshow in Lincolnshire for 2018, the RAF's Centenary Year of all Years......

Unfortunately might not be able to make either Fairford or Cosford so was really hoping for either Scampton or Waddington :( :'( .

Might have to make to (Weather permitting - after last year) with East Fortune and/ or Ayr/ Prestwick so heres hoping. Shame Leuchars is no longer an Airshow, I know there's probably going to be an Army Open Day but it's not the same.

As much as I had hoped the show would succeed, looking at the lineup it was essentially a £40 version of a seaside show with the exception of the F16 and Alpha Jet giving it a bit of a buzz.

"However, post-event there remains a lot to reflect on and areas where we would like to improve. As the organiser, we have concluded that rather than stage an airshow in 2018, we will use next year to fully consider the many lessons learnt with the ambition of running an event in 2019."

If it takes 2 years to realise that lowering the price and moving the date in order to attract a better turn out(aircraft wise), then don't hold out for a show in 2019 either.

Being a cynical beggar, I saw this coming.
Cave into public pressure to host a show, cripple potential with high ticket prices, then perfect excuse to can it when it failed.
MISSING - x1 Air Force.
If found please return to the UK.

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but I thought it was a sell-out.

Went up for the arrivals on the Friday and enjoyed that despite the lousy weather!

So the WONDERFUL RIAT Team that organised it have given in without much of a fight!

It does feel a bit like that I agree - but I am cynical as well :)

Will Scampton still be an RAF base in 2019? more cuts being made.
If it is a choice between closing a base and keeping the Red Arrows I prefer the Arrows.

Simplified Analysis... Choose a venue with limited capacity, divide 'sell-out' crowd into total projected cost, arrive at distastefully high cost per head.
Hold event anyway, achieve maximum ticket sales, add-up all the costs, subtract total income, discover predictable but horrendous deficit!
Arrive at fairly obvious conclusion that venue is not fit for purpose, make excuses for not repeating the same mistake & in true Monty Python fashion...."Run Away!" :halo:

The Arrows may soon be lost as the team may soon be used to guard Buck Palace
as the Navy lads will need to go back to their leaking new ship.
All cost cutting I fear. :(

Oh Dear,
No Scampton 2018 airshow. Yet again we lose an airshow, how is this going to end?. No airshows in the UK at all except RAIT, maybe that may finish. Oh well back to plane spotting at the crash gates and each end of the runways. I believe this is the end of Scampton airshow altogether.

I understand the effort put in and the cost of events like airshows, but over priced tickets don't help, and as I cannot comment on the Scampton show 2017, as I could not afford to go, but went to departure day and the weather was dreadful .

Whats the betting we lose another airshow during or after this season?.

I may turn my attention to civil aviation at airports, at least you do get action during the week and weekends (including Sundays). Very disappointed at this news.

Very angry :@

It's sad to think in a way, it's the RAFs 100th (Centenary) Year and it doesn't look like there will be an AIrshow in Lincolnshire!?
