We have had a Chinook HC3 doing low level flying and tight turns from the DCA,
also a Merlin did a low level approach from the Calne direction with tail door down and a 360 degree turn to get back to the airfield and land and take off.
Allso 2 C17's for repatriation duties, and we have had several low level flights by the Hercules either passing the airfield on their way to salisbury plain or coming back from salisbury plain and staying at low level as they go by.
also mainly at week ends the airspace seems to be used by aerobatic aircraft doing loops, stall turns etc.
So lynehams not dead yet.

Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....
Still some activity at RAF Lyneham
Re: Still some activity at RAF Lyneham
We had a Merlin in to Lyneham either Tuesday or Wednesday last week I am not sure if it landed but seen it later in the Left hand circuit going back towards Swindon.Time was around 5 oclock
Also last night 2 Hercules J and a K models from Brize direction very low (250ft or so) over the main runway heading towards Chippenham/Calne direction the J model was first and I did think it was landing, presumably going to Salisbury Plain or Keevil.
Time was about 5.40pm.
Still some action at Lyneham yet.

Yes, clearly still gets used for overshoots.
Re: Still some activity at RAF Lyneham
Hi all
My Friends Dad was at a Sector Meeting for the ATC at Lyneham last week and all the top brass were at this meeting. My Friends Dad got talking to an officer there and he said Lyneham is still being used for Flying as when Brize has no parking room the herc's will fly in to Lyneham wait for a while then takeoff and Land at Brize. Other Aircraft will hold on the ground at Lyneham to wait for free space at Brize like the C-17's and VC10's.
This was an obvious Problem that was going to occur in my eyes.
Sean.
