Fairford Construction thread

Post by thevulcan » Wed Jul 20, 2022 1:54 pm

Hello all I thought it would be interesting to create a thread tracking the progress of construction work which will begin at Fairford shortly an image of the work is located below along with what each color/section is. This information is all open in the public domain and the information shared here does not hinder or compromise the security and mission of the service men and woman at RAF Fairford. Hope you enjoy taking a look. :thumb:

Project titles Relating To Image Above:
1a – Storage of military material (DABS) (Group 1 project) (this project has already been screened for EIA).
1b – Storage of military munitions (MHA) (Group 1 project) (this project has already been screened for EIA).
2d – Multi-purpose hangar (MPH) (4 Bay hangar Bomb Proof) (Group 2 project).
3a – Northeast taxiway and hard-standing (Group 3 project). (This project is part of the normal life-cycle replacement of
infrastructure on the base and is included in this report for the consideration of potential cumulative effects).
Other potential projects (Group 4 and the remainder of Group 3 projects) are too uncertain to be shown at this time.

Time Frame:
Group 1
DABS August 2021 18 months (Delayed till after MHA is complete)
MHA August 2021 20 months (Work will begin later this year 2022)
Group 2
MPH January 2021 20 months (Due to be completed in December 2022)
Group 3
Northeast taxiway and hardstanding repairs September 2021 20 months
Group 4 Temporary developments
medical clinic After August 2021 n/a
school After August 2021 24 months
Permanent developments
medical clinic After 2022 (month not confirmed)
school After 2022

Regarding Flying Credit to Spitfire88
Flying will increase at Fairford and there will be a minimum of 4 BTF deployments a year. plus the U2's

As you can see a significant amount of work is about to begin or has already begun and it should be interesting to watch the base change. One thing is for certain though the MPH will definitely be one of the bigger military hangar complexes in the UK and be a right pain in the :grr: for FRIAT pictures while it's being constructed. :thumb:

I think you forgot to add the image as I cannot see one and would you be able to state what the acronyms mean please?

What happened to the original thread that was about 8 pages long on this subject? I can’t find it now, been deleted??

I tidied up the original thread, an individual wasn't happy and suggested I deleted the whole thing, so I did.

A few locals seem to get very very touchy with Fairford information.

The image is on a document located here: Simply search RAF Fairford detailed plans are not made available and are quickly removed once permission is given.

The acronyms stand for:
MPH = Multi Purpose hangar (comprising of 4 hangars and offices workshops etc)

DABS = Deployable Air Base System (Mostly storage buildings with flat pack field hospitals in etc that can be deployed quickly if they are needed in cargo aircraft.)

MHA = Munitions Handling Area (Replacing the old cold war era bomb dump with new facilities located on base on the northern side and a smaller area on the southern side of the base).

Interesting, be nice to know the reasoning, just asking.

I tidied up after it was getting heated around the posting of photos of the hangar, personally I thought it was ridiculous, there will be thousands of photos from the weekend with those hangars in the back ground. After the thread tidied, an individual was thinking I was singling two user out, so I explained I deleted almost 30 posts from 12 different users, said individual was still not happy and said I might as well delete it all.

Hope that helps,

Mike

With the hangars, there was an edict to all the volunteers at RIAT apparently not to take any photo's of them. Slight madness given they can't be missed but hey ho!
Cheers,

Yup!!

Wouldn't surprise me if there was some foreign intelligence member(s) at riat this weekend, I bet they got a cracking view. The hangars do not look special at all to me.

I suspect most members would consider this ridiculous. However these days we must all be caring, catch falling teddies and gently return them to the prams from whence they were ejected.

Will the building works be completed in time for the introduction of the B-21!

Fairford is bound to be one of the bases to receive B-21 deployments ?

Yes, but to those in the know...

Funny given the furore beforehand I did spend a moment studying them just to see if I could discern anything unusual about them. If it hadn't been raised and the ensuing discussion hadn't taken place, I would have paid them precisely zero attention...

It is amusing how the images stirred up so much emotion amongst certain folk, those who won't show themselves, all over buildings, yet nothing is mentioned regarding dozens of images of the 'special' aircraft that are photographed nearly every day, it really is pathetic.
