Hey Gary,
a couple of the UK contractor ground staff managed to get a hold of them direct from the aircrews, I managed to get a patch off a friend of mine that works there. But as of yet nothing with an actual point of sale has come up yet. if i see one ill let you know here

There are a couple of units at Fairford right now using RAF crest style patches with the crown, of which neither has permission from the MoD to use the crown on its uniform ;)

Could you please post a link to the website that gives details of permission for wearing the crown (or lack thereof)?

Thanks but my point was how do we/page_verify know that the Fairford units do not have permission?

It's interesting that the USAF 9th Bomb Squadron has a 'Bat' emblem, the same as the same numbered RAF squadron. Who copied whom...? :S

I note that the 'official' USAF 9th emblem is 'IX' formed from intersecting searchlight beams, as seen in behind the bat on the patch. However, the bat is on the aircraft tail flash, so it's not exactly unofficial...

From what I got told by a IX(B) pilot during a visit. The 9th BS started using it unofficially after they came to Marham. Minds gone blank when that was. It was to celebrate an anniversary 80 or 85th? How true that is I couldn't say

There was a link on here to photos from the photocall, can't find them at the moment

Two B1s came over in September 2004, went to Mildenhall first but cannot remember if both made it to Marham or just one

That visit was in November 2002, I was involved in helping 9BS research its visit to 9 Sqn. The US were fascinated that the RAF squadron was also a bomb squadron and also flew a swing-wing aircraft. It already had some connection with bats at that point but nothing significant. About the same time they visited Fairford, the squadron's "cloud nine" morale patch was hastily retired.....so I suspect bats may have replaced it.

I managed to get the deployment coin. It is very nicely detailed, but it is very small about 2in by 1 and a half inches. Just heads up to anyone interested.
